Godparent question...

Who did you pick for yours? I am having my brother be the godfather...but I literally have no other girls close enough to me to be a godmother. I don't know what to do. My BIL and my friend are the godparents of DD...but I don't want to ask the same friend again (we have been butting heads lately). The rest of my friends have life issues or aren't close enough to me for me to ask. DH doesn't have a sister or anything so we are stuck. Ideas? I know it's just a title really but I'd still like for him to have godparents.

Are you catholic? if your brother is catholic you only need one. My friend was going to just have her sister but added a god father at the last minute.

My brother-in-law (methodist) and my best friend/maid of honor (catholic). Baptism is in Catholic Church so we will always need at least ONE godparent to be Catholic

This is the million dollar question for us. We can't seem to pick and kind of roll over the conversation now when it comes up.

Maybe you can just have a godfather...do you really have to have a godmother? Why settle for someone just for a title?

We are Methodist so this may not apply to you... but we didn't have godparents/sponsors for DD's baptism and won't with this baby either. We feel like our children will have many spiritual influences from family and friends and don't need to designate specific godparents. We are very active in our church and feel like they would be taken care of in that regard if something were to happen to DH and I. Maybe an option for you.

If you are Cayholic, you only need one. And you cannot have a non-Catholic godparent. If you guys are really having trouble deciding, why don't you just stick with the godfather?

We are using my BIL & SIL for one of the girls.

For the other it will be one of my brothers and one of my female friends; most likely my BFF growing up (even though we're not as close now).

My best friend and Nate's best friend are the godparents. I cant imagine asking anyone else. I knew as soon as I found out I was pregnant that Steph will be godmother.

this is not true, you can have a non Catholic god parent you just must have ONE Catholic godparent, they both don't have to be

this baby will have 2 godfathers. Between us we only have one sister and 6 brothers so DD#1 got my sister, this baby and any future will get a combination of our brothers

We are lucky in that I have two sisters and DH has two brothers, and we plan on having two kids. So we picked one of each for this set of godparents and it's understood that when we have our second child in a couple of years, the other two will be godparents. I'm so glad it works out like that because I know it's a tough decision and I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

This is something we so haven't addressed and I'm not sure what we'll do. I want my sister to be the godmother as she lives so far away and this will help her establish a connection to her nephew. Neither of us have a brother, although I have someone I consider a brother, a foreign exchange student from Germany that I keep in touch with and visited with my husband abt three years ago. DH' has a best friend who coincidentally is his sister's fiancee. So, DH's BF would be the ideal choice for the godfather, but is that awful? If we have a second child, DH's sister would be the godmother, but not sure who the godfather would be.....
