Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How much did/does your 6 week old weigh?

Our little guy was 7lb 2oz at birth, and dropped down to 6lb 7oz in the hospital.  At 6 weeks he is now 9lb 10oz, which seems big to us but it is evidently only the 15th percentile or so for his age (based on Dr. Google).  He is gaining more than 1 oz per day (on breastmilk only) and thriving so I'm not too worried about it, but I am surprised. DH is tall as is his egg donor, so we expected a bigger baby.  Don't get me wrong, I am in now way disappointed or upset, just perplexed :)

So how big was your LO at birth and at 6w?

ETA: his length was 19 inches at birth and 21 inches at 2w. Not sure how long he is now but he has grown out of his NB clothes due to his length, so he's at least 22 or 23 inches, I would estimate.

  • DD was 8 lbs 1 oz at birth (at 38 weeks, so she probably would have been pretty huge had I gone to my due date) and is right around 12 right now though I don't think she's super long. She's just a chunker--my brother calls her Jaba the Baby, lol.

Your son is darling and seems like a good weight for his height.

  • Wow, Lucy was a big baby for 38 weeks - well done!  Sam was born at 40w2d, so we totally expected an 8 pounder or more.  I have a feeling he's going to be a tall skinny guy, like DH and the ED.  He is juuuust starting to get a little belly and it's super cute :)

  • DS was 7 lbs 9 oz, 21 in. at birth, dropped to 6 lbs 14oz at the hospital and was 7lbs 10oz by his 10 day checkup.  He was 10 lbs 5 oz at 6 weeks (25th %) but he's really long now too (outgrowing everything in length).  His 2 month appt is tomorrow and I'll be interested to see how big and long he is now...I would guess he's close to 12 lbs now but no idea how long.

  • Your little one is very similar to ours. birth:7lb 12oz, 19.25 inches went down to 7lb 8oz. At first pedi appointment back up to birth weight. At 1 month he was 9lb 4 oz and almost 22inches. DS is in the 25% and 50% for length and weight. He is also starting to outgrow NB based on length only. he's still very lean and the width still fits him much better than larger clothes, but if it has feet in it he can't wear NB because of his length and foot size.

  • There are worse things than being tall & skinny. ;)

Is he still going thru growth spurt fussies? The past couple of days DD has decided that she's going to be AWAKE. ALL. THE.TIME. Today she's going on a three hour nap, so I'm hoping it was growth spurt related and we're on the down swing.

  • Ours was 6 pounds when I had her and we weighed her yesterday (6 weeks 4 days) and she weighs 10 pounds 9 ounces.  She is a little chunk, I guess I will see what the Pedi says in 2 weeks, LOL!
  • DS was 12 at 6 weeks up from 7.2 at birth so I wouldn't sweat it.

Oh my god yes - last week was horrific.  Sam was either crying, eating, or fighting sleep. Looks like it might be continuing as I hear him now.  Ugh

  • DD was 6 lbs 11 oz at birth.  At 6 weeks she was 11 lbs!  And now at 2 months shes 12 lbs so it seems her weight gain is tapering off a bit.

She was born at 19 inches and on wednesday for her 2 month check up she was only 21.  She grew 2 inches in 2 months lol.  She was in the 5th percentile for height.  She still fits in her newborn clothes even though shes 12 lbs. Oh boy, my chunky monkey.

  • LO isn't quite 6 weeks yet, but the last time he was weighed (last week at 4 weeks) he was 11 lbs 8 oz.  I have a feeling he is up over 12 lbs now.  But he was a chunker at birth (10 lbs 3 oz).

  • Man, our little guy is so skinny!  Or maybe our scale sucks.  Hmmm.  Well, he seems to be growing OK so I guess I'll just wait until our 2 mo appt to get the scoop :)

  • Tegan was 6 lbs 4 oz at birth and at 6 weeks weighed 8 lbs 2 oz. We have her 2 month appt next week and I am anxious to see what she weighs now and how long she is.

  • Our boy isn't that old yet but I thought I'd chime in because his measurements are so similar so far. He was 7 lbs 3 oz at birth, 7 lbs 9 oz at 2 weeks. 19/5" at birth and 21.5" at 2 weeks. I know that at 2 wks he was in the 75% for length and 25% for weight... I think he's just long and skinny naturally. Sounds like your baby is similar - I think that's just their body type.

We had a baby in Mom & Baby class who was 4 mo old and still just had that long & skinny body. Perfectly healthy but some babies will just never be chubby!

  • My LO was 7lbs, 1oz at birth, so similar in size to yours.  He's now 9lbs, 3oz at 6 weeks, so even smaller than yours.  I am surprised we have such a little guy, but as long as he's gaining weight, I'm not worried.
