Which type of pacifier do you plan on using? The round pacifiers or the Orthodontic Pacifiers? My SIL swears by the round ones and sent me a couple in a care package she sent me a couple weeks ago but I am used to seeing people use the orthodontic ones.
Second time mommies what worked best for you?
Re: Pacifiers?
You won't get to decide. Your child will.
DD hated the NUKs and the round ones (I forget what those are called). The only one she ever took (and still uses) is a Mam.
Bloggin' It
Yea the choice isn't really yours, Your little one will let you know which they prefer. My DS loved the NUK'S. I started out trying the Avent ones but he liked the NUK's better.
I think it kind of depends on what your baby prefers. I'm a speech pathologist and I work with a lot of babies on developing effective sucking skills (nutritive and non-nutritive), and I personally do not like the Nuk pacifiers. I think the shape of the pacifier encourages a lingual thrust-type patterning of sucking versus a more mature, true sucking pattern. Of course, the lingual thrust (suckle) pattern is more typical when the baby is a newborn, but they should move away from it eventually (so better not to encourage it for an extended period of time with the Nuk paci).
If you want a orthodontic pacifier, I would use a Mam. Otherwise, I like Soothies a lot as well as Playtex. A co-worker of mine really likes the Gerber pacis because they are more flexible beyond the actual "nipple."
