How seriously should I take painless contractions?

(Also posted on 0-3)

I am having regular, painless contractions that is just my belly tightening. 5-10 min apart, lasting 1 minute...only been timing for about 30 min. I had my bloody show this morning. I am only asking because I don't want to ignore something that could be, but I also don't want to go to L&D if it is just BH not doing anything...suggestions?

  • I was always told to drink lots of water and rest, see if it goes away... If not time for hospital

    I'd wait to see if they intensify. I'd also try to get them to stop, by drinking water and lying down, or taking a warm shower, or taking a brisk walk for about 15 minutes. Differing your activity level will make them lessen or intensify.

    You haven't been timing for very long, but given that you are over 40 weeks this could develop into something!

    Here's hoping!! ::fingers crossed::

  • My doc told me to go to the hospital when they were 4 minutes apart, lasting about one minute for an hour.  Sounds like you're on your way... GL!

  • Good luck! Early contrax can be painless just like BH. Keep timing them, I hope this is it!

  • I have been having them all day. Mine started at 5-7 mins apart but I decided to wait it out because they aren't intense at all. I'm planning tojust wait since I can still function around the house. I'd much rather be home at the moment. Did you go in or call l&d?
  • Women can be in labor for hours to days before they actually become close enough and strong enough to do anything or become active labor. Since you are 40 weeks take this as early labor and go about your business. Sleep, eat, take a shower. As long as you can talk and smile through your contractions and or walk then it's probably way to early to be concerned or to even go to the hospital...maybe tomorrow AM call your doc to give them a heads up.
  • I would say call L&D and see what they say.. your contractions might not be painful but since you are having a bloody show, I would call just to make sure!
  • I've been having very regular, painless contractions off and on for the past week, oftentimes being 5 minutes apart for 12 hours at a time.  They have never hurt though.  One night they started to hurt ever so slightly so I got excited, but then they went away.  My doctor said to call when they are 5 minutes apart, lasting a minute or more, and when I'm having trouble talking through them.  This of course was never the case so I never called - still waiting for the real thing...
