3rd Trimester

So...I asked her to leave my baby shower....

Kind of a vent...but I have this friend..well..lol.  I don't know if I can even call her that now.  Who insisted on having a baby shower since I was 3 months pg.  Keep in mine this is my 3RD CHILD.  So I was letting her have her fun since she insisted on the condition that is stay small, and really be no big deal.  More like an excuse to eat cake with my girls.  So ...she doesnt tell me what time the shower is until a week ago...decides last minute to have it at a different location.  This of course leaves all the invitees not knowing where or when to be there.  Leaves the ordering of the cake, the picking up of the cake and the making of food to another friend of mine....then calls to say that her husband is going to sit in the living room and watch the UK game while he tries to "drown us out."  The icing on the cake is not only is this not being held at her house, or her husband taking up his own living room...but she decied to call and say she can only stay an hour that she has other plans.  SO I told her to please leave.....and forget my phone number.   I should feel sad because this is a 4 yr friendship...but honestly...I feel....lighter.  I was even dreading going to the shower and ended up loving it mostly because she wasnt there.  Im so glad no more showers are in my future..maybe that was my punishment for agreeing to have another shower.

  • Good for you. Sounds like she is an idiot. I know what you mean by you should feel sad for ending a 4 yr friendship, but everything happens for a reason. Wow what a piece of work.

  • See..thats the kicker...she wasn't even at her house...she asked the same friend that picked up the cake, made the food..pretty much hosted the shower..if it could be held at her house last minute.  Thats why I was shocked when she said her husband was going to not only come to my baby shower...but take up said friends living room where all the seating is so he could watch the game on their big screen.  This couple is seriously rude.  I feel like i'm just realizing it.  All of the other husbands were going out for dinner and this guy refused.

I had to read it a few times...it was NOT at the friend's house.

To the OP: that sucks that she's so flaky, but good that you feel better about it!

What? ..when you said he was watching tv in the living room I was confused thinking it was at HIS house. Yeah.. She (and he) seem like sucky people! Any friendship is 'hard' to lose, but really...Sometimes it's just for the best. She sucks. Good for you!!

  • PS, what was your other friends take on this?  ..the one who was left to actually throw your shower?
  • I'm hoping that there are some more underlying issues that would make you end a four- year friendship, other than she's throwing you a less-than-classy shower.

ETA - Okay, I just read your clarification. Yeah, she sounds like a douche.

Sounds like she was extra baggage anyway, lol.

This. I did a little.. spring cleaning.. myself. I haven't spoken to my "best friend" of 12 years in almost 6 months. Life has been much better without her. Sometimes you have to cut your losses and move on. Sounds like you did a good thing! =)

  • Wow!  What a rotten friend.
  • oh wow...im really sorry that happened...
  • So what was her reaction when you told her to leave?
  • all i can say is wow! and maybe good riddance? very glad that you enjoyed the remainder of your shower though!
