Contraction Question - is this a start?

I have been having uncomfortable, but not painful, contractions for about 4 hours now. They are anywhere from 6-10 min apart and 30-45 sec long. I'm not thinking of going to L&D or anything b/c I want to labor at home for as long as possible. This doesn't seem like it would be real labor b/c I'm imagining it will hurt a lot more, but is this a sign of things starting? Or is this just something that can happen and then subside until real labor starts?

  • sounds like it could be...have you ruled out false labor by drinking water to make sure that you aren't dehydrated and all those other things they tell you?

  • it's so frustrating... It could be it, but could not be. LOL, good luck! Everyone's pain is different. I know some people who are in a ton of pain at the very start. But also know some other's who labored at home for so long because the pain wasn't too bad by the time they got to the hospital they had their baby with in a half hour! Which isn't a bad thing, but there was no time for an epi... If you were planning on getting one, it's something to think about. IMO, if it's not that bad then good for you. If you get to hospital and it's time for baby, no epi...Then you're just a trooper and can go natural!
  • Yes, I have been drinking a ton of water and have tried to change positions and it seems like they get worse when I get up and walk around. Which actually makes me think it's false since real labor should be pretty consistent, right?

I guess it has to progress at some point and I will know one way or the other. Good thing it's getting late and I can go to sleep. I guess if I wake up worse it's real and if I don't it was just practice! LOL
