DD was just diagnosed with another double EI. We saw the on call doc so I will talk to our regular pedi next week.
Hard to say exactly how many she's had because we've had a lot of trouble getting them to clear up. She had one in the late summer/early fall that took two antibiotics and three or four weeks to clear up. From Thanksgiving until early January she was on three different oral antibiotics, and then injectibles which finally cleared it. (Also a trip to the ER for a severe allergic reaction to Augmentin). Barely five weeks later here we are again. For the majority of the last six months she's had and EI. And, she's only 11 months old.
I'm so sad for my poor baby.
Would love to hear your experiences as I think this is the direction we are headed. Thanks.
Re: How many EI's before your pedi referred you to an ENT?
My older daughter had 8 EIs before we were referred to the ENT. I didn't know then that with our insurance, I do not need a referral. Our ped believes in exhausting all antibiotic possibilities before surgery (tubes) and our ENT believes tubes should be put in after two back to back EIs. Our ENT is anti-antibiotics. So, when our second child was on EI #4, I had her in the ENT asap. I knew I could drag it out for more EIs, but whats the point.
My younger daugther has several EIs post tubes, but still is doing well. My older daughter's tubes fell out after and year and half. problems started right up again and she just got a second set two weeks ago.
they have been a blessing. a complete blessing. even wtih EIs post tubes, its easy to recognize and treat.
