Anyone using baby powder on baby?

Just curious. I know back then my mom, aunts and their friends used it like it was going out of style. But I remember reading something in one of my books saying it is not recommended to use it anymore because the baby can inhale and suffocate. I got a bunch of baby powder at my shower and I dont want it to go to waste. Will it it be so horrible if I use a little bit on my baby? or no? TIA!

No baby powder is necessary and can seriously harm LO. Use it in your shoes or something.

I had baby powder used on me and my MIL brags about how she over used baby powder on my husband.. and we both turned out fine

I plan on using it a little, but my doctor told me if I want to be extra careful, just to put my hand over DD face when I'm sprinkling it on...

Yes I'll probably be using a little bit of powder for my baby, especially if she has lots of fat rolls (and I hope she does lol). I love chunky babies.You don't just shake the bottle at them making clouds of powder go into the air. At least that's not the way I've ever done it.

I wouldn't want to use it on me, so I won't use it on the baby. I find it really irritating and DH hates the fragrance. I'm not sure if powder will be necessary at all - we'll see if the need arises.

Do your baby a favor and do not use it on her. Docs don't even recommend pouring formula powder into a bottle in the presence of LO. These particles are tiny and it doesn't take much to get into the air and into LO's lungs. A dead baby, a baby on a ventilator, or one with severe allergies is not something you want. You can use the lotion kind if you really want to use something on the fat rolls. You will NEVER forgive yourself if something were to happen. If that's a risk that you're willing to take with your child, then you are a douche. Use the powder on yourself (and not while LO is in the room).

OB said no baby powder, can cause asthma and other respiratory diseases down the road. Use for shoes, getting oil stains out clothes, etc.

I use baby powder on DS now when my DH is stupid and gives him milk but he is also almost 3 I never used it when they were little

I used it on DDs neck--she had some rolls and would get sweaty/got a rash; the baby powder cleared it up w/in a few days It will not be horrible if you use it on baby

Calm down there!!! I am not saying it's a great idea but a little bit of baby powder that is applied using proper precautions has a pretty low risk of KILLING YOUR BABY! I'm not saying don't be informed and take stupid risks...but really, you are acting a little nutso.

And no, I have never used or will use baby powder on my babies --- I just think you are a being a bit extreme.

I think I used it maybe once or twice with ds (and that was only because he had a little diaper rash). Not necessary, imo.

My parents used it on us. We used it on my little cousins. We're all fine and good.

I will probably use it but obviously with proper precautions. And very little. That's kind of obvious though.

I was just thinking the same. I was starting to feel pretty bad for posting this because I had no idea people felt this way towards baby powder. Once again, I am a 1st time mom and still learning lol

And it is pretty common sense not to be making dust clouds with it :-)

This. DS had heat rash. I put it in my hand to apply it.
