Has anyone thought about or used something to protect their seats in their car in case their water breaks? I don't want to stain my seats and have heard that having your water break on your car seats is not a good thing.
The chances of your water breaking on its own is rare.
This. I wouldn't even worry about that scenario.
This. I have heard tho that if you are one of the few whose does break to put a garbage bag down and then a towel on top of it to sit on while driving to the hospital.
The chances are fairly rare that your water will break but I totally agree with the worry. I posted something about this a while ago.... Someone sugguested those doggy pee pads, like for little dogs to pee in your house type thing. My hubby asks all the time if I want him to grab me a sham'wow. I have been meaning to throw a towel in my car (and begin sitting on one when I'm on the sofa & maybe in bed....) I do understand that chances are slim of water breaking, but two out of the four of my sil's had their water break at home. My LO is breech and there is no head down there to block the whole if water decides to leak, or gush out!
Okay, I was paranoid about this when I was pg with dd. I had garbage bags in my car and I sat on towels!
I was also paranoid that my water would break in bed, and I didn't want to ruin my mattress, so I put garbage bags under my mattress pad - barefly felt them. Well, although it's only a small chance that your water will break on it's own, mine did, in bed! I was so glad I had the garbage bags under the mattress pad, because we didn't have any problems! My first instructions to my DH from the bathroom, was to strip the bed and get it in the wash! So thankful that we had done this. Of course, we put the garbage bags down on our bed two weeks ago, in preperation for this one! Good luck!
Oh, my doula also suggested wearing depends while laboring at home i your water breaks to protect the couch, carpets, etc.
ugh, I would HATE to have had depends on! That seems very, very extreme to me...my water broke on its own at home it is not gallons of water...a simple pad was plenty of protection as I continued to labor at home.

It doesn't sound extreme to me. My Midwife suggested the same thing actually. Our birthing center suggested buying a pack of Depends because they believe the mesh panties and pads from the hospital work as well and they don't have any to give away.
I could care less what I look like as long as my brand new car and mattress don't get amniotic fluid or blood on them.
Putting garbage bags seems silly to me because then you slide all over the place and towels create a ton of laundry. Where Depends are disposable. I bought a waterproof mattress pad for bed when the time gets closer I will put that on and I will buy some Depends as well.

My thing is, you water breaking could be the very first sign of labor - not having contractions. So, I mean, are you going to be wearing Depends at work, or going out? I think I'd be the laughing stock of my company, lol.
The garbage bags would be under the towels, and if you are buckled in, I doubt they'd be sliding anywhere. I'm really not too concerned about my car, I've seen MUCH worse get cleaned out of seats (I restored a few old cars with my stepfather) and yes, my car is new, and yes, I am sure my LO will eventually make a complete mess out of the back seats anyway

Also, it's typically, not a huge gush followed by gallons of fluid.
Keep some towels in the car, but murphy's law sez if you do that, you'll never need them.
