Did solids effect your DC milk intake?

Rayskit reminded me in my other post that Eileen will be on solids in a few weeks---how should I expect that to impact her milk intake per day?

How did it effect your DC?

 TIA!

p.s. My goal is to start with avocado--anyone have any good tips on how to make it?

Re: Did solids effect your DC milk intake?

  • Not really, she continued/continues to nurse on demand, which seems like all the time. They also did nothing to help her sleep.

Avocado is easy. Just mash it with a fork and mix it with a little breastmilk.

  • No, he continued to have 5 bottles 5-6 ounces a piece. Depending on what you start with most solids hardly have any calories. Avocado definitely has a lot, so that may fill them up a little more than the other foods. Cereals, veggies, fruits etc. usually have like 20-50 calories per serving. A 5 ounce bottle of formula/bm has 100 calories, so you can see why they still continue to need quite a bit of milk even while on solids.
  • I think so???  She did three less nursing sessions a day as we filled in those sessions with solids.  I can't say that she actually took less milk because we didn't do bottles, but I assume it tapered down a bit.

  • No, I don't think so.  It is just recently that he has seemed to drink just a little less.  BM/formula is still supposed to be the main nutrition source the food is really just practice at that age.
  • not right away, but about a month in to solids it did. although i still nurse on demand, we are on much more of a schedule with eating now due to solids and he nurses less. he used to nurse every 2 hours, but now he eats 3x a day (soon to be 5 when we introduce finger foods/snacks).
