Will I regret not doing maternity photos?

I'm not feeling all that photogenic at the moment, but I'm wondering if I'll look back and regret not having them.    Anyone regret not having them?  Should I just suck it up and bare my belly and not worry about my fat a$$?

Re: Will I regret not doing maternity photos?

  • I do! I felt horrible during my pregnancy and so I never scheduled any. the week before I delivered I made my husband do a photo shoot of me. Some of them came out pretty good, but nothing like professional photos would have.

I really wish I would have just done it!

  • I didn't do them and I don't regret it a bit. We splurged on newborn pics instead which was worth it to me...
  • I don't regret not having them. :) I took a belly picture every week so my pregnancy was well documented.

  • I really enjoy looking back at mine.  I forgot what it was like to be pregnant and what I looked like, and I'm not too fond of the snapshots that I have of me while pregnant.  However, I really enjoy looking at my maternity pictures because they make me look beautiful (and trust me, towards the end I was feeling anything but!  Most days I just hung out in my husband's pajama pants).

I think if you did the photos you won't regret it, but you might regret it if you don't.   Although, if I had to choose between newborn pics and maternity pics, I would probably choose newborn.

  • I regret not doing it.

ETA:  I was huge and gross, and I still regret it.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • I went back and forth on this for a while. I didn't have professional shots taken but my husband and I set up great shots and I love those pictures. If we get pg again then I will get professional ones done.
  • I really wanted to do them, but didn't want to spend the money.  Last week I went a little hormonal on DH and kinda had a fit that we wouldn't have anything to document and remember this pregnancy (it was very dramatic).  :)

One of DH's co-workers does photog. on the side and she offered to come and take some this past weekend for $50.  Even though they aren't the same quality as a pro, I'm really glad we had her come take them.  There are some great ones in there and that was all I wanted.

  • I never did them and don't regret it at all.  In fact, there are very few pictures of me pregnant.  I really hate being pregnant and for me, it just wasn't something I was interested in.  I'd much rather have newborn pics and family pics.
  • I wasn't really interested in maternity pics and I don't regret it. I'm incredibly uncomfortable in posed pictures. It's not my thing.

  • I'm glad I did them. If we have another baby I would do them again with a better photographer.

  • I decided last minute to do maternity photos at 36 weeks, and I am happy I did.  I wanted something to have, and show our family and friends, who all live out of state.  I think it will be fun to look back on later in life.  We only spent $40 on the photos.
  • I didn't do them and have never regretted it.  I did not enjoy pregnancy and did not see it as a Kodak moment.

  • I do not regret them, but I try to take photos every couple of weeks to see how my belly grows. Maybe if I was a 1 and done, I might regret not getting them.

  • I do!  I wish I did the first time around.  Then I felt like "Well I didn't do it the first time so why should I do it for the 2nd baby?"  Now I regret not doing it this time too.  I didn't even take one belly picture this time!   :(

    I say do it!!  :)

  • You'll want to do it soon if you decide to. Personally, I've never loved my belly more than I have when being pregnant.

And these ladies are professionals Wink

When I get Pregnant again will you do mine???

I had mine done, DH hated it, and for the next baby it will just be me and DS.  I don't want to put DH through it again.  I haven't done anything with my photos, and I paid a lot of $$ for them.  But I did get a FREE Newborn shoot with the Maternity photos.

I did mine at 32 weeks so I wasn't fat and unhappy yet.

I'm worried this will be in a few months. I regret not having a couple pics for Kaylin's baby book. There are a few snapshots at showers of me but they are really bad pics. I don't even want to put them in her scrapbook. But I wouldn't want anything over the top since I don't plan to display them anywhere else. And I can totally relate to the "didn't do it the first time" idea. But, DH and I have considered that this may be our last pregnancy. Oh boy... what to do?!

  • Nope don't regret it for one second!  I have pics that dh took of us at the beach and doing other things when I was pg but I really don't need a professional taking pg pics of me that I would NEVER frame and put up.  Pg photos sort of gross me out (no offense) I would totally put the money into photos of my nb and the first year!  That said I also lost 60lbs after I had Cruz so I really don't want to look at fat pics lol!

  • I love mine and hope to do them again with Hayden.  And even though you may not be feeling your most beautiful now, it is pretty amazing what a good photographer can do with lighting, angles and editing.

  • I really regret not doing them earlier.  I had mine scheduled for the Saturday of my 36th week (w/ JLD Imagery Smile).  Then I got admitted to the hospital that Wednesday for Pre-e.  We were then planning on having her come to the hospital and do them there, but we had a baby by 5am Sat morning.  If you want to get them, don't wait too long, you never know what is going to happen.

  • As much as I loved my maternity photos with DD (that the lovely MrsAmyB took), I haven't looked at them much, other than in the baby book of DD's.

I didn't get them done for my 2nd pregnancy because I didn't like my pudgy body much.  The only thing I regret about that is not taking at least a few to put in DS's baby book, like I did for his sister. But he's a boy and prolly wouldn't appreciate them anyway, so that makes me feel a little better!

So... I'd say get them done.  If you want to go the uber cheap route, you can go to JCP with some ideas in hand and they'll take them for you for $3.99 a pose.  Or ask one of our Bumpie photogs to do it for you for a more personal experience with guaranteed beautiful shots.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone!  I think I'm leaning towards doing them.  I want to do newborn pics anyway so maybe I'll find one photographer to do both.
