So, I swear I registered for this but realized the other day it's not on my registry. I went to the Target website to add it it and it doesn't come up in the search? Is there something I don't know about the diaper genie systems - I was planning on the Elite II system? Have they been discontinued or did Target stop carrying them? Thought I'd ask around...thanks!
Re: Diaper Genie????
Baby Bargains gave the new Champ awful reviews stating that it didnt hold in the smell at all
Hmmm.. that's too bad. We've used ours for 19 months now and it works great! Oh well!
That's why I didn't get the Champ. Originally, I thought it made a lot more sense( seeing as how you can use regular trash bags.) However, after I read Baby Bargains and saw the rating...I ended up getting the Diaper Genie II Elite instead. HOWEVER, I've heard a lot of bumpies say that they love their Diaper Champ. It can't be so bad if so many of them like it.:-) I just decided to go who Baby Bargains gave the best rating to.
By the way, I bought my Diaper Genie Elite at Target a few weeks ago. They do have them at the store, so I don't know what is up with the website?
ditto!
i think no matter what system you decide to use they generally stop being efficient at containing the odors in about 6-9 months of use or so.... so just a short while after the solids are introduced and the odors really kick in... too bad. Some people claim that their pail (be it diaper genie II or others) still work well after a year or even 2 of use but i honestly doubt that. I had a diaper genie I with my 1st DD and took it apart to thoroughly clean / disinfect every other day (that's more frequent than most people do for sure). We threw that contraption into the trash when my daughter turned 8 m old - so right after 7 months of use (we threw diapers into our kitchen trash for the first month, individually wrapped in grocery bags).
Whichever diaper disposal system you buy, it will work really well for the first few months for sure. To make it last longer i advise cleaning it often, try putting a drier sheet on the bottom inside the pail, and also shake the poop into the toilet before folding the used diaper closed and putting it into the pail - that will cut down on odors big time. Individually wrapping soiled diapers into a plastic baggie before putting them into the pail would also help.
