Babies: 9 - 12 Months

10 months.. no teeth... new foods?

Are there any soft veggies or fruits that I could start giving to my daughter ... she has no teeth yet and I think she is getting bored with baby food and gerber puffs.

  • Steamed apples & pears are big in our house. Bananas, blueberries... and any steamed veggies chopped up into bite sizes.

  • We have 1/2 of one front tooth poking out. That's it. He eats all sorts of soft table foods and gums them successfully. Babies usually get their front teeth first and don't really use them in chewing, so I think you are ok. Just start slow with small soft pieces. I give him very small pieces and he does great. Last night he ate baked chicken, sauteed spinach, steamed zucchini, and couscous. He really eats pretty much everything we do! Start experimenting with close supervision and you'll get more comfortable!

He also likes to hold and gnaw on things, so we stick with stuff that will more dissolve in his mouth when he gums them -- like crackers and mum mums. Some babies will take "bites" of soft cooked "sticks" of food, like sweet potato strips, steamed carrots, etc but he won't do that yet.
