any RH- ladies get a rhogam shot for first tri spotting?

in 1st Trimester

at what point did you get one?  with ANY spotting?  and how far along were you?

can someone tell me their experience?

    the rhogam shot I thought was for if you had a RH negative blood type.. you don't get it for spotting just for the blood type...

    humm... I'm not sure if spotting requires it.  I think you're supposed to get it within 72 hours.  Call your OB.

    Rhogam is a shot if your blood is incompatible w/your baby's blood. So if you're a negative, you will get it if your baby is positive. I don't think it has anything to do w/spotting. My OB said that if I was to get it, I would get it around 26 weeks and then at birth, so my body doesn't make antibodies against my baby's blood.

    You don't get the shot b/c you are spotting.

    The only times you get it, per my high risk doctor, are when you miscarry and around 36 weeks for delivery purposes.

    I had to get the shot last Monday b/c I am 0- and lost two of the three babies I was carrying.

    I got the shot after heavy spotting (which turned out to be a subchorionic hemorrhage).  So I've now had the "mini" version 2 times at the ER for that.  Check with your doctor and be very honest about how much spotting is involved.  They may do it as a precaution since there is no harm in getting it and very few side effects.

    If you are Rh- and have any kind of spotting before you get the shot at 28 weeks, they will give you a shot.  The baby's blood cannot mix with the mother's without the shot, because that's when the mother's blood will start building anitbodies against the baby's blood.  It usually won't affect the first pregnancy, but if you don't get the shot during your first pregnancy, future pregnancies can be affected.

    My doctor said yes you do get the shot if you spot.  They do not want any possible mixing of mother and baby's blood. 

    I am A-, and I will get the shot at 28 weeks and right after birth unless the baby tests with Rh- blood.
