Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Pierced ears at 6months?

My DD is always mistaken for being a boy?even though Ialways put her in girly clothes :p

My mom said she had the same issue with me so she pierced myears at 6 months . I am glad that I never had to know that pain and happy mymother it did.

I would love to see DD with ear rings (so cute) But I just don?t know if I could go through it with DD, itwould just break my heart to watch her cry?

Does any one else have their DD ears pierced?

Re: Pierced ears at 6months?

  • Yes, I had them done when she was 7 months old.

  • I got my DDs ears pierced at 4 months, that's when our pedi said we could do it.  It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  She only cried for a minute or two and then she was totally back to normal laughing and smiling again.  They healed very quickly and are so easy to take care of.  It's nice because she doesn't mess with them or pull on them or anything, and they look so cute!
  • If my DS would have been a DD her ears would have been pierced.

  • i'm not anti-piercing but...

she's going to get called a boy no matter what.  pierced ears won't change that.  when i was like 9 i had a bob hair cut and got called a boy despite having pierced ears.  and people that don't notice your kid in all pink also won't notice the pierced ears.  i don't think that's a very good reason to pierce them.

  • You're going to get A LOT of opinions on this!! :)

We did DD's at 6 months and it was no big deal. She cried for maybe 30 seconds on each ear and then could care less. She doesn't play with them, and the cleaning was a breeze. Honestly, we would have done it sooner but her ears were so tiny!!!

We had it done at Piercing Pagoda, but if you're worried some pediatricians offices will do it.

  • DD's ears were pierced at 4 months.  People still think she is a boy.
  • I did it at a place called Merle Norman and they did a fantastic job.  They have (at least at the one here) a person specially trained to pierce babies ears.

  • We did it at 6 mo. They are easy to clean and she never plays with them. She cried about the same as she does for shots. I had my ears pierced as an adult and it's not painful-just surprising. I didn't feel like I was making her feel pain.

as for your concern about her crying: it won't be any worse than her getting her shots.  in fact, i bet it will be LESS crying b/c it will be faster.

  • What are the chances of someone noticing earings if they arent paying attention to the pink outfits?

Pierce her ears if you want but I don't think it's going to change anything.

  • Only if they use needles instead of the gun would I do it if DS was a girl.  The gun is to dangerous for my likings...  I love ear piercings (I've had 7) and there is a major difference from being pierced with a gun and needles (just the word gun piercing ears makes my ears hurt).

  • if you do it or not I don't think the 'not remembering the pain' has much to do with it.

I'm sure if a seven year old got her ears pierced she would not be scarred for life from the few seconds of pain.

  • Yes, I had DD's ears pierced at 4 months but people still thought she was a boy.  So, I started making her hair bows to put on crocheted headbands and she hasn't been mistaken since.
