Anyone wear scrubs to work?

I work at a women's health center, and most of the staff wear scrubs. I'm the social worker, so my dress code is different. BUT, my boss told me today that on certain days I could wear scrubs if I want to (probably about 2 days out of the week).

So my question is - how the he!! am I going to find scrub tops that are comfortable? I have to wear both tops and bottoms. I can't just wear scrub pants and comfy shirt or something like that. Where do I even find such a thing? Should I wait to buy scrub tops since I'm not that big yet - I'm only about 21 weeks.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

  • I don't wear scrubs, but don't they make maternity scrubs?

    ETA: They do indeed: https://www.allheart.com/maternity-scrubs.html

  • I do!  Is it bad to say that one of the reasons I chose my career (x-ray tech) was so that I could wear scrubs everyday!!

When I was pregnant with Noah I was able to wear my normal scrub pants the entire time.  I just tied them below my belly and never had a real issue keeping them up, I was able to tie them tight enough that they stayed.  I ended up wearing the hospitals OR scrub shirts later on in my pregnancy when I outgrew mine just because I didn't want to buy a bunch that would fit me.

But you should be able to find some that fit your belly now and will give you some room to grow.  I'm a big fan of the mock wraps with ties in the back.  They actually look a lot like regular maternity tops with an empire waist and ties in the back.

I usually have good luck at the uniform store in Tri-County....can't remember the name.  I also buy a lot of mine from here  https://www.marcusuniforms.com/  They have pretty decent prices.

  • I wear scrubs to work but I worked at the hospital when I was pregnant so I just wore their scrubs when I outgrew mine at about 28w.  I couldn't justify buying maternity scrubs when I wasn't going to wear them that long.  Now I'm no longer working at the hospital so I'm not sure what I'm going to do next time around.  If I start showing earlier than I did with Logan (a very good possibility) I might break down and buy maternity scrubs.  Sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but I do love wearing scrubs to work.

  • With my first pregnancy as I was further along, I continued to wear scrub bottoms but I wouldn't wear scrub tops, just a nice stretchy shortsleeved t-under a scrub jacket...much more comfortable for me and still in the dress code--I wouldn't waste your money on maternity scrub tops.

  • I wear scrubs to work and the best shirts I have found (believe it or not) were from Garden Ridge.  Not sure if they still have them but they had shirts that were scrub tops but had a spandex type material on the sides...hard to explain but if you seen them, you would know it's them right away.  They are the most comfortable and somewhat flattering shirts I have found.
  • I actually really like the scrubs from Walmart of all places.  I stopped buying them at the scrubs stores because I was having trouble with them wearing holes easilly.  I haven't had that problem at all from the Walmart scrubs, and I really like their pants.

When I was pregnant with Ethan, I wore at least my scrub pants for a long time, and I would wear a short sleeve tee shirt and a scrub jacket on top of that.  I would do this again!  Just get a couple scrub jackets (they have short sleeve or long sleeve) and then you can wear one of your own tops underneath.

  • ehhh that is kind of tricky! In my situation, I wear my scrub tops as long as I can, and then I just wear stretchy shirts the remaining time because scrub tops are too expensive to be buying bigger sizes the entire pg, and then not to be able to wear them again.

Did they say you couldn't wear comfy tops?
