From what I've read, spray tans have not been proven to have any negative affect on the fetus, but it is suggested to avoid them during the first trimester and, after the first trimester, to do it in a well venilated area.
Personally, I would not since the chemicals will be absorbed by your body and you could inhale the fumes if not done in a venilated place.
I'm headed to FL and am as pale as they come due to winter + New England, so I'd love to get one too, but I don't think it's worth it. Heck, we're aren't supposed to be using half the face lotions out there, and half the body lotions have essential oils and other stuff that could cause issues with the baby's development or even just stimulate uterine contractions, so I figure if those seemingly "safe" things aren't good, a spray tan definitely isn't going to be since it is absorbed by so much of your skin. I believe the general rule is that if something is used infrequently and on less than 10% of your skin (like anti-dandruff shampoo or anti-fungal foot meds) then it's unlikely to cause harm. A spray tan is just way too risky in my opinion.
The owner of the tanning salon I used to go to try to get me to do a spray tan b/c she thinks it's safe. However, I refused because there is just no way not to inhale any of those awful fumes. Not worth the risk. I'm going for my first dr. apt tomorrow and am going to ask about tinted lotions.
Even if it is safe (which I'm not sure it is) keep in mind that your hormones might make the color take differently. I say it's better to be pale than oompa loompa orange!
I'm so bummed! I am a white girl..big time! And my sister is getting married in June (I will be 30 weeks pregnant - I'll be the whale of honor!). The dresses are an orangey/pink & I have a feeling that a tan is much needed. This will definitely be on the list of questions for my midwife when I see her in a few weeks. I was planning on getting sprayed, but I just don't know that it's a good idea now.

My OB nurse said that self tanners and tinted lotions are safe to use. I like to use L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze tinted self tanning lotion. I mix it with my regular lotion so that it goes on really nice. You do have to be careful b/c it will streak. There is a slight odor, but I haven't found one, yet, that doesn't.
