I spent this past Friday night and most of Saturday at the hospital due to a terrible pain in my lower right abdomen. After several ultrasounds, a first diagnosis of ovarian torsion, confounded doctors, and finally a diagnosis, it turned out I have a necrotic uterine fibroid in degradation that is pressing against my right ovary.
They gave me 600mg Motrin for 24 hours (it's safe at 20 weeks but not past 30) and one Percocet that made me loopy. I'm much better now, though I'm supposed to rest until Wednesday and pretty much deal with any remaining pain as I see fit until the thing finally dies. The doctors were pleased that the fibroid is located significantly away from the baby but I'm just wondering if anyone here has had fibroid problems during pregnancy, if you've made it to term and how you dealt with any pain.
Re: Anyone ever have painful fibroids?
I don't, but my mo did with her last two (I was a late teen, so I remember it well). She did have one that ruptured during the second to last pregnancy, but it was a fast thing, had her down for about 2 days tops, and she just took tylenol and laid down as much as she could. It was excruciating pain, but it was short-lived. The last pregnancy, she had fibroids but they just sorta stayed there. No complications.
Both pregnancies went to full term and the fibroids didn't cause any problems other than discomfort sometimes when the baby kicked them (hers were just on the outside of the sac, right in front of the babies). The docs did regular sonograms to check on their position, and just kept monitoring the baby's size and all that.
