I think there's a minimum length they will cut off for donation. I can't remember exactly what length though. I had 13inches cut off Aug 2008 and donated. I went from really long to kind of a bob.

Don't make the same mistake I did last year. She told me I only had to do 7 inches, so that's what I did. Then I found out that 7 would be used for mannequins. You need at least 10 for a wig
I'm a stylist and the minimum is 10 inches. There is more than one type of place that makes wigs for cancer kids/women. So check inot it. I havent' read up on it lately.
You won't be bald. You could do a cute chin length bob or you may even have a little more length than that left. It will be much easier to care for.
And, FYI it takes about 12 of those ponytails they cut off to make one wig.
10 inches is the min. You hair can be colored, bleached and permed. I donated November of 2008 and cut off 12 inches total. I received a card a few months later from LOL thanking me for my donation. I'll probably try to donate every 5 years. I just hate my hair short, but it's for a good cause.
BW looks like you are going to have short hair if you are going to try to make the min. But it has to be 10 inches in length, so my stylist measured my hair put it in a pony tail and chopped.

LoL is mostly for kids with Alopecia and long term hair loss (cancer kids don't meet their standard usually, you have to have been bald for a year), not cancer, FYI.
10" is the min. but i would wait just a little bit longer, cause they cut the 10" THEN you do the haircut, so it ends up super short. I donated 22" several years ago, i felt good about doing something good, but i cried like a baby because the change was SO drastic. I will never ever go that short again (it was Halle Berry short)

The LoL website says that cancer is the second highest percentage of recipients behind alopecia.

Please be aware that Locks of Love is a FOR PROFIT company. I donated 4 times before realizing this. These wigs are not provided to cancer patients free of charge, they use the hair to make wigs for profit.

Yes, and it is a very small percent. You can have 98% of one thing, 1% of another, and 1% be a bunch of other things, KWIM, and that first 1% of one thing would still be second. Their requirements are very strict and kids with cancer usually don't meet them due to the time restrictions. I wish their restrictions were not so strict and that they didn't do a sliding scale but gave the wigs away, but they don't. My sister was so disappointed when she found all that info out.

I am with you there...I am going to probably donate my 15 or so inches to Pantene's program. I cannot WAIT to get this freaking mop off my head.

Did you research LoL at all? They mostly want $$ donations now, not hair. They end up selling most of the hair that is donated.
(I researched it after my 12 year old sister donated a foot+ of virgin blonde hair after having Thyroid cancer)
i think it is 10 in.
