Re: Medela PISA pumping disaster - help!

  • This has never happened to me because I have a low supply.  I remember reading in the manual to make sure not to tilt the shields too high up.  Maybe you had the position wrong?  If the milk got into the pump you'll have to make sure to clean that membrane inside (I think that's what it's called).

  • Are you using the original shields that the PISA came with? My PISA came with the two-piece shields that have the tube connect towards the bottom.  I got the one-piece shields as part of an accessory kit and the tube connects on the top, so the milk comes nowhere near the tube, unless it shoots at a really odd angle.  They also sell the shields separately (about $8 each).
  • The only time I got milk in the tube was when I pumped too much and let the bottle overflow.  Maybe you were holding the flanges at the wrong angle- too low or too high?  Were you leaning into the sheilds?  Have you tried looking at the manual for tips?  You can always call Medela customer service, I'm sure they'd be able to help you fix the problem.

  • Thank you so much for the help everyone!!  I was probably sitting weird and holding the shields at a weird angle at that was why it happened.  I called Medela customer service and they were sooooo helpful!!!  Thanks again for the advice.
