3rd Trimester

How much movement should I be expecting?

I know that all babies are different, and that they have slow days and busy days. But I keep reading about kick counts and counting during an hour's time. My question is, how much movement should I be looking for throughout a day? Should I be feeling movement each hour? Or is it fine to just feel him several times throughout the day? I get a little worried when I read about how much movement I should feel in an hour. He moves alot, but only at certain times during the day.

TIA

Re: How much movement should I be expecting?

  • I don't feel Cam much during the day. Usually when I am sitting down or laying in bed is when I can feel her, mostly at night.

  • With all the movement posts recently, i've been wondering the same!  And of course today, my LO has been SUPER quiet.  But I think lack of movement becomes more of a 'problem' later in third tri...I have a doc appointment on Wednesday, so i'm asking him then!!

  • I was worried about movement and my dr told me as long as I felt 10 movements in 4 hours I was ok.
  • As long as LO is relatively consistent with movement. . . meaning generally the same amount of movement around the same time.  You are going to have periods with little to no movement, especially the farther you get into 3rd tri because LO is establishing sleep/wake periods.
  • Thanks, that sounds good, I do feel him at least that much usually. I don't have another appointment until the 9th, and I am feeling him each day so I'm trying not to worry too much :)

  • I started kick counts at 28 weeks...and my doc says that I should be getting 10 kicks/movements in 2 hours. If it's less than that then you should contact your doc, and they can do a stress test.
