My OB started me on Zoloft after my m/c and said it was safe during pregnancy, so I can continue to take it when I get another BFP. I just googled it and it says Zoloft is a category C, which can be harmful during pregnancy. WTF? Why did my OB say it was safe??? Anyone else talk to their doc about antidepressants? I'm confused and now and worried about taking it.

Re: Antidepressants
I am currently on cymbalta (which I love) and it is not safe during pregnancy. She said that she would just switch me to something else when the time comes.
Wouldn't it make more since to switch now to something safe for when the time does come?? I am pretty sure she mentioned zoloft to me but not 100% sure. I do know that she said prozac is ok.
I would ask your doc. Did you look up zoloft specifically? I was on another anti-depressant, and I was told to stop taking them a month before I started CD1 for the month we would be TTCing. Though, my shrink did offer to put me on something safer for TTC ( I think it was Zoloft, but Im not 100% sure on that), but I was only on them short term.
Do you feel like you still need them? Maybe its time to stop taking them anyways, that would solve this whole issue.

It's category C because they can't conduct studies on humans for it because of the obvious ethical issues. There is no antidepressant that is recommended for pregnancies. Very few meds are recommended for pregnancies. It's very strict. However many antidepressants are safe. They know this from women who don't/can't stop taking them when they're pregnant and the babies that they have. I believe Zoloft is safe. I will take my antidepressants throughout my pregnancy and my docs and mid-wife said that it was fine.
