3rd Trimester

are you washing ALL the clothes?

or just the first few months worth?  I was think just 0-3 or 0-6 months worth of clothing.  It seems too early to wash beyond that, right?  Or will I be too busy to want to wash all those clothes once LO is here?

Re: are you washing ALL the clothes?

  • I washed up to 6 months.  However, I might do the rest because I found out our baby is going to be a chunker when he's born.

  • I am doing everything, all clothes, blankets, sheets, burp cloths... you name it, it is getting washed!  Figure I will do it now while I have the time.
  • We just had our shower yesterday and I was planning on washing everything now, but I only got a few things that were bigger than 6 months.
  • So far just the 0-3.

  • I'm just washing the NB and 0-3 months now.  I'll wash the 3-6 months and above in a few months....

  • I washed everything, but we're Team Green, so we didn't get too many things beyond onesies & sleepers for NB, 0-3, & 3-6.  All blankets, sheets, etc. are also already washed.

  • I wish I hadn't washed all of the 0-3 clothes since we've had two weight ultrasounds this month that predict an 8+ pound baby.  He probably won't wear all of it.  I guess that having too many nice things for baby is not a bad thing...

  • I washed all the 0-6 months and put the rest in a bin in the attic.  I have quite a bit of stuff because my mom works at Gymboree part time and this will her first grandchild so she is going CRAZY with clothes.  I don't have room left in the dressers for anything bigger than 6 months.
  • I did through 3 months and a few of the smaller looking 6 month things. We got about 100 lbs of hand me downs, so some of the onesies had shrunk a bit... or were Gerber, which seem to be super small anyways. We're waiting on the rest!

  • I just went ahead and washed everything. I wanted to get it over with.
  • I am just going to wash everything now. I have the time (somewhat) so I am going to just do it while I can. Whatever I dont get to wash, my mom can wash it while she is here in June for the month.

You'll probably be okay though. My son wore 0-3 months clothes until he was about 12-13 pounds. It really depends on the brand. You're right in that he probably won't wear it all.

I have yet to wash everything. I'm trying to decide if I need to wash everything or if things can wait. I'll probably wash the 0-3 months things now and then wash everything else at a later time.

  • I plan on washing a few 0-3 items and waiting to see how it goes size wise.

  • I didnt wash any unless they had a smell, were used or looked messy.  I like wearing new clothes with tags so why not my kid.  Just my opinion.
  • I have gotten advice to only wash 0-3 mo.  You have no idea what size your baby will be or how quickly they'll grow, so I am keeping the tags on everything over newborn in case we need to return them.  It would be pretty sucky to have 12 mos worth of clothes washed and baby can't fit into half of them:(  Plus, you will have PLENTY of time to wash the rest of their clothing once baby is here and you have a better idea of their size and growth pattern...

  • So far I've washed everything because it has mostly been hand-me-downs from friends or used from eBay. He did get some stuff for Christmas, and I've bought a handful of things, too. Also, it was kind of fun to get everything clean and tidy and put away in its place.

I probably will wait to wash stuff from here on out -- gifts from showers, etc. -- just because he has so much stuff already. I have no idea how much clothing babies "need" but I feel like if he didn't get another item of clothing, at this point he'd still be okay for the first 9 months!

  • I'm not washing anything.  I didn't with DD and she's fine.

I guess I'm confused by this.  Your baby will still be able to wear the clothes over a newborn size at some point, just maybe not for as long as you expected.  If you have super heavy winter clothes, that's one thing.  But onesies, sleepers, etc.--you'll need those year round.  Plus its not like you're going to be able to return anything past the return policy date, which is generally 2-3 months.

I am washing everything.  Alot of the stuff came from a consignment store though so I wanted to wash it as soon as I got it home.  The stuff that was 9 months and up I washed and then put in a separate tub in the basement--I'll pull it out when he's ready, and wash it again probably.  The rest I do not plan to wash again.

Not necessarily.  My SIL's baby girl pretty much skipped 6 month clothing entirely or only was able to wear them for a few weeks (she's huge).  She now has a crate full of clothing that was never worn.  Plus we live in the south where its extremely hot and humid in summer but freezing in fall/winter so many of her things are either totally summer or very warm for cold, and won't work if she's small or overly large.  It's just a personal decision and I will have 10 wks of maternity leave to wash things so I am just waiting:)

This exactly. I remember my boys not wearing quite a bit of their NB or 0-3 stuff because they were big.

  • I washed everything but a lot of it was second hand stuff (which I always wash immediately when I get it). I have 0-6 months in the closet and everything larger tucked away for future use.

This. Although I have only washed up to 3 months. I will be washing up to 6 months after my shower next week. LO is already 5 lbs, 15 oz & we still have 6 weeks to go.

  • No I have washed NB, 0-3 and 3-6 months. I am not really sure how big he will be so the rest are in the drawers waiting.

  • I'm only washing newborns for now. Some were bigger than others so I plan on bringing some smaller and bigger newborn outfits to the hospital and see what he fits in. Once he gets home, I will do the 0-3 at some point and just do the others as we need them.
