Used Madela Pump In Style Advanced

My best friend gave me her breastpump. I know that this topic is contraversial for some, but I have also heard there is a difference between types of pumps (closed versus open) and that you can also replace parts. She used it 3 times total, by the way.

Does anyone know if this is the closed or open system or how I would find out and has anyone ever replaced the parts on this one?

  • I'm prettys ure Medela is an open system...meaning milk particles can (and do) get into the actual motor.

  • Thank you. Damn.

It seems like such a waste. I wish there was some way to convert it especially since it was used just 3 times. ugh.

Well, sort of. Yes, the PISA is an open system, meaning milk can -- but normally does not -- get into the motor. Ask your friend whether milk ever overflowed the collection bottles and entered the tubing. If it did, then there is a chance milk reached the motor.

Assuming the answer to that question is no, I would replace the flanges, valves, connectors and tubing. Then you should be okay.

I know it didn't overflow. The whole problem was she could barely get any milk to come out. She had a major supply problem.

But I will ask to be sure.

I do also know that she had no problems with thrush or any infectious dieases. Thank you.

You're welcome! It's a good pump. I've been using it for three months now.
