heartburn meds

What are you guys doing about heartburn? Prior to pregnancy I would get frequent heartburn and of course it is continuing. I would normally take pepto bismol or a small acid reducer pill. Any suggestions as to what is safe to take now?

Re: heartburn meds

  • Try Maalox. It's safe during pregnancy and works wonders.

  • My OB said that Tums(with meals) or Pepcid (before meals) are both safe during pregnancy. I've just been taking Tums and that really helps! Good luck!

  • Tum... tum... tum... tum.. tums. Tums! I live on them!!
  • Rolaid soft chews (vanilla).  The cherry ones were gross.  They tasted like cherry chapstick.

  • My acid reflux was completely out of control, even prior to pregnancy, so Tums and Rolaids did nothing for me. My doctor told me that Zantac (ranitidine) is completely safe. He advised me to take one in the morning and one in the evening. Combined with a modified diet, it has helped a lot.

This, I have really bad acid reflux and am normally on Protonix for it but my Dr. told me to switch to Zantac once I find out I'm pregnant.  Only got my BFP yesterday but I switched to Zantac this morning.  Dr. also said that taking it in morning and night is ok.

  • I had never gotten heartburn before in my life and I have been getting it like crazy.  I love really spicy foods and I've had to step it down a notch.

I'm going to pick up some Tums tomorrow!

This also.  I was taking Tums but I was getting sick off them with morning sickness so my Doctor said Zantac twice a day and it's really helping :)

FWIW, I took protonix every other night when pg with DS.
