Breastfeeding

Cleaning breast pump etc.

I'm so tired of washing all these little breast pump bottles and the breast pump parts multiple times per day.  Is there any other way?  Maybe a sterilizer????

  • rinising and sterilizing bags they are about $7.00 and they have 100 uses. Even if you used them every other time or so it would be a relief from bottle washing.

  • Store your parts in the refrigerator during the day, then wash and sterilize once a day. I highly recommend the Medela sterilizing bags!

I can't do that because I work full time and pump twice per day at work and then once more at night before bed :-(

  • I pumped twice a day at work and just rinsed the parts in between.  If BM is good at room temperature for up to 8 hours, than your pump parts should be good for those few hours.  And my DH and I took turns washing bottles and pump parts at night.  You don't have to sterilize every day unless your water quality is questionable (not common in the USA).  It says that on the bottle package.

I work FT too and pump 4 times a day at work.  I just put my pump parts in a lunchbag and stick it in the work fridge.  If you don't have access to a fridge at work, Playtex makes a Fridge To Go bag that you put in the freezer overnight and it keeps things chilled for up to 12 hours the next day.  As long as the pump parts are refridgerated, you don't have to clean them until that night before you go to bed for the next day.
