Charting to avoid??

So I think I'm done with the pill. I'm going to start taking my temps. My cycles are long and sometimes with no O. The last time I charted it was TTC. I ended up getting pregnant twice (1 m/c). How do you avoid if you don't know when you ovulate?? Only have sex the first 5 days and then wait until a week after you ovulate? Lol. Any tips?

  • Get a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it explains it very well.

Basically you take your temp every morning and monitor your cervical fluid to see when you're fertile. It does work if you are PERFECT and very very careful. If you are not...well...see my siggy for the results ;)

  • We used the sympto-thermal method for 5 months after we were first married and it worked like a charm!
  • I agree with Rach.

Cervical fluid is a big indicator of impending O.  However, not everyone gets cervical fluid so be extra careful until you figure out your pattern.

If I were you, I'd have sex up til CD 10 and then not until at least five days after O.  Once you chart for a few cycles, you should start to see a pattern and then you could expand on the number of days you could have sex.

    GL.

Oh and I'd use condoms if you're iffy on it.

That's what makes me so nervous!! I was worried about getting KU on the pill. Do you know where you went wrong (not that your sons aren't worth the oops!)?

Where I went wrong was attempting to do it with a newborn who wasn't sleeping through the night. My temps were totally useless and I was a walking zombie so I was pretty careless about it anyway. The day that he was conceived, I knew it was risky but we did it anyway. Whoops :)

It only takes once! Just keep reminding yourself of that, lol!

That totally makes sense.  Sleep is very important for taking a temp!!!!

well she sleeps through the night, but I don't! Always get up to pee. I guess I'll see if my temps are consistent enough this month and play it really safe!
