Let me preface this by saying: I'm a worry-butt.
Okay, in the typical diagnosis for diabetes, there are usually issues that they mom was dealing with that led her to the disease (obesity, heredity, whatever else). Right?
Are those the same precursors for GD, or is anyone susceptible to it?
I ask because whenever I read about the screening process during pregnancy, it seems that all moms get screened and not just those that are at a higher risk... is there such thing as a "higher risk" with gestational diabetes?

I had it with both pregnancies and I was not even close to being overweight and no one in my family has it. Anyone can get it. Some areat higher risk, but anyone can get it.
Why are you so worried about it?
Thanks Ms. Albie.. and honey, I worry about everything. lol
I can admit that I'm not overly worried, but I think about it whenever I start craving pies and cakes and muffins...
I was slightly overweight and with a huge family history of diabetes. I did NOT have GD during my 1st pregnancy. I literally fell off a chair when they told me I didn't have it- that's how much I was expecting to have it.
While there are general risk factors for it, it really has more to do with how your body handles the pregnancy and whether your body can handle the insulin production.

Now, I am SERIOUSLY craving pancakes!!!!
There are some risk factors, such as having it in a previous pg, that make you more likely to have it again...but everyone is 'at risk' for it.
Or you can be weird like me, and have it with #1 but not have it the 2nd time.
