1st Trimester

1st u/s...didn't see hb

I'm just 6 weeks today (according to MY dates) and we saw a gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole, so obviously no hb yet.  Got another apptointment for Thursday so we shall see!  Doctor didn't sound worried and said this was normal if I'm truely 6 weeks along....she said if I were like 8 weeks it wouldn't be good.  Hopefully all is well.

At least this puts aside my fears of twins hahaha....at least I think it does, since there was just ONE sac...hopefully I can't grow another one within the week ;)

  • I agree with your doctor.

At this point hours matter as far as development and growth.  I'm glad they are bringing you back in a few days to check again.

  • yea I'm actually...shockingly....not at all worried?!  weird.  Maybe since I have been through this a few times and actually believe the dr. when she says "it's too early" haha :)  Good luck to you too Jess....do you get another U/S?

and the u/s tech actually said the same thing as PP...that it could be tomorrow that we'd see the actual baby so hours really do matter!

This is why my doctor doesn't do early u/s's.  I'm sure all is well.  Good luck.

Thank you. Yes I get another ultrasound next week. She has faith that everything will look good next week.

  • I had ultrasounds at 6 weeks and 6 weeks, 5 days.  The doctor couldn't see a heartbeat at either appointment.  At 7 weeks, 4 days, we saw a nice, strong heartbeat.  (We did IVF so we knew the exact dates).

I panicked for that week and a half and it was a LONG week and a half.  I hope my story calms you so you don't panic like I did.  It was just too early to see the heartbeat and that is true for a lot of women.  Just ignore all the posts where women see the heartbeat early- everyone is different.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • I am followed pretty closely because of my previous losses.  I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks, 6 weeks, and 7 weeks so far.  At 6 weeks we saw a gestational sac, yolk sac, and fetal pole.  The heartbeat was not detectable yet.  When I went at 7 weeks, we saw a little baby with arm buds and a nice heartbeat.  It's totally normal to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks but also totally normal not to see a heartbeat.  It is right on the cusp.  Hang in there.
