Hello Ladies,
I am still fairly new to this board, but something happened today to prompt a question. I am about 10 weeks pregnant. I have never had any problems with my blood sugar before today.
I am an EMT and while at work today, about 3 hours after my last meal, I started to feel really shaky and just weird. I kept brushing it off thinking it was hormones, but it got worse. My partner on the ambulance checked my sugar and it was at 58. This is low. I ate, and felt a little better, and it started happening a few hours later. It was 64 this time.
Has anyone else experienced this?? Is this a precursor to Gestational Diabetes? Is there such a thing as pregnancy hypoglycemia? I have an appointment tomorrow morning, but I thought I would ask here anyway because it was all new to me. I can't help but think that I'm just overreacting or wondering if a lot a pregnancy dizziness is caused by the same thing, is it normal to have low sugar while pregnant? Thanks for your input! I know its a long odd question..
Thanks!,
-Danielle
Re: Long question about blood sugar??
I am not sure. However, I thought with gestational diabetes the blood sugar would be high, not low.
Did you have any hunger pains you ignored? Are you eating a low-carb diet?

Thanks Ladies.
I'm going to try to eat more frequently. I thought I had a handle on when and how much to eat, but maybe not, and no, no low carb diet. Had it not been for my partner wanting to stab me in the finger with a lancet, I would have never known it was low and just chalked it up to part of being pregnant. Ignorance is bliss I suppose! Wish me luck at the appointment!! (I think I get another u/s!)

I tend to be hypoglycemic too and prior to getting pregnant was on a low GI diet which helped control blood sugar levels, but my usual diet no longer sounds appealing to me. So once I started eating differently, I had an increase of hypoglycemic events combined with nausea. Once I started eating more frequently and combining carbs/proteins I did much better.
I honestly think for me...that the morning sickness/nausea was blood sugar related.
