what is the big deal with nipples?

I'm watching waiting to exhale and i guess you can see one of the women's nips under her bra and they have it like blurried out.  Got me thinking, WTF is the big deal with women's nipples? I don't get it, you can see a man's chest but not a woman's chest?  Not that I particularly want to, but at least ours are more functional!
