Medication question...

in 2nd Trimester

So, my 6 month old nephew was just diagnosed with severe excema and needs cortisone cream 3 times per day.  I watch him on Fridays and am figuring that the medication is absorbed through the skin, right?

My question is...can I apply the cream to him or will is it contraindicated for pregnant women?  Thanks.

    Hydrocortisone cream is on my doctor's list of "safe medicines".   If you were worried, I'd think if you were just putting it on your nephew and then washed your hands you'd be fine.

    My midwife reccomended it to me twice a day for some itching.

    Its safe. No need to worry at all. Per my OBs recommendation I have been lathering myself in it for awhile as well as practically pouring it down my ear (for an infection). Its only a topical steroid. Just don't eat a whole tube.

    It does get absorbed but since you're putting most of it on your nephew, you're not getting too terribly much of it. Having too much cortisol on a long-term basis is not a good thing, but you shouldn't have any issues from simply applying it to your nephew. Especially since it's likely not too much at a time. It might even help you to have a bit extra in your system since we all seem to be itching like crazy!
