s/o - what is the most 'out there' thing

a childless friend thought you would or could do with a baby?

Me:  I had a friend suggest we go inter-tubing down a river with my 9 month old...

  • a waitress at a restaurant asked us if we wanted a kids' menu for DD - this was last month.  Then DH ordered a side of fries for himself and the waitress thought they were for DD.

  • A good friend of mine thought DS (11 months at the time) would sit through 3 baseball games in a weekend and got me tickets to all of them.  Yeah, he generally makes it through 4 innings if we're lucky so I left him with my parents for one game and gave away my tickets to the other 2.

  • A friend of ours didn't understand why we wouldn't take DD to watch the fireworks when she was 6 months old.  Uh, because they start at 9pm and because she really doesn't give a crap about them? lol

  • Love the kids menu thing - we got that when DD was as young as two months.  Seriously???

We had a friend ask us to go to the movies.  We said we couldn't because of DD and no sitter.  They said why not?  Isn't that what pacifiers are for?  What, she can't stay quiet for two hours? Indifferent

  • well, i THOUGHT it would be taking him to a blues traveler concert when he was 9 months old...but he slept through the whole thing in the babybelle carrier! we put earplugs in (and he left them in - miracle #1) and then he slept!

disclaimer: it was supposed to be an outdoor park concert and we were going with the ILs who didn't care if we bailed after 15 mins. got moved inside because of rain so we earplugged him very well and gave it 5 minutes. he just snuggled in and went to sleep! when i think back on this i feel very guilty that i didn't put my foot down and say no way, but it ended well and the earplugs really protected his ears (i tried them first to make sure they were really muffling the sounds)

My parents took me white water rafting when I was less than a year old.  They didn't get any parent of the year awards though.

We got this one too. My BFF actually thought he'd watch the movie, at 7 months.  "What, he'll love the colors and stuff!" Yeah, for 15 seconds, which is the extent of his attention span right now.

And then she tried to gossip to mutual friends about how we were too stuck on our baby.

Yeah, I'd say no to that too, despite the fact there's no hole in the bottom of said water conveyance.

  • My 23 y/o brother came to visit me and DD in the hospital when she was 1 day old, and when I said she was probably hungry and it was time for her to eat, said, "what does she eat, just mushy food?" LOL.

Um, no. Then I whipped out a breast.

  • A friend of ours asked if Gideon had tried soda yet. He is just now 7 months haha.

We get this a lot. Also, our parents/grandparents/aunts usually babysit Noah when we need to go somewhere, and not our friends, and therefore they gossip that we "never leave the baby with anyone". Blegh.

  • The most out there thing I was ever asked came from my MIL, who raised 2 children.  When DD was all of a day old and we were still in the hospital, she asked me if I fed her when she cried- like if I waited until she cried to feed her...

Um, no the goal is for the baby to NOT cry, you try to keep the baby fed so she doesn't cry...

  • FIL was completely offended & upset when I told him that we would not be taking DD to see that new princess movie - even tho SIL & BIL were taking their DD to it (the girls are 2 months apart)...

I'm sorry - but even at 20 months, DD is not going to sit for a 1/2 hour let alone 90 minutes. It wouldn't be fun for any of us.

  • A teller at the bank asked if I wanted a lollipop for DS2....who is a little over 3 months old.
