I am almost 36 weeks and of course I haven't had any real issues to complain about. Has anyone had a UTI? I think I may have one because I am really uncomfortable down there. Of course it's Sunday and Easter too so I can't call the midwife office. I am just curious if anyone didn't take the antibiotics and what you did instead? I think it's early on but enough to make me really unhappy. Thanks.
Re: Anyone experience a UTI?
For a UTI you need to drink a lot of fluids to help flush it out, especially cranberry juice can help. Plain cranberry juice not the better tasting stuff mixed with apple or raspberry. Yogurt is supposed to help a lot too. I used to get them all the time while lifeguarding because I sat in a wet suit all day. Make sure to wear a pantyliner to help keeps things dry down there. I know it feels like you constantly have to pee and it burns too pee, which sounds miserable for pregnancy. I guess if I was you I'd stock up on yogurt and carryaround a liter of water and liter of cranberry juice to Easter. Good luck!
On another note... If you truly have an infection you want to take antibiotics. It could turn into much worse and you could harm the baby with infection. Plus, it could develop into kidney stones.
Im not saying you don't have a UTI but I am the queen of getting UTIs and I was so sure I had one and didn't it was just normal pregnancy discomfort. But that being said I would defiantly take precaution. Lots of water, nothing with carbonation, and like everyone else is saying the not so good tasting cranberry juice.
I was once told to only cut caffeine and it didn't go away because I was still drinking caffeine free soda. (Not saying your doing this, I know alot of people cut soda when pregnant but I am not one of them I just limit it)
If you catch it early enough you can get rid of it just by flushing it out with TONS of water. (Sure, cranberry juice is good too, but if you read about it they say it has to be real cranberry juice which is really really hard to find, and also extremely expensive).
But if it still feels like a bladder infection tomorrow go in, take the pee test, and get the antibiotics. Because if you don't get rid of a bladder infection, you can develop a kidney infection which will be the worst back pain of your life plus a high fever......not something that would be fun at any time, but especially not fun as a seriously pregnant lady!
(But if you've never had a UTI before it might be really hard to notice the 'early stages', as it usually just feels a little bit stingy/weird after-sensation when you pee, but not painful).
I had one and also it turns out I also had a kidney stone. It was so painful I thought I was going into labor and went to the hospital but it was extreme pain i was put on antibiotics for the suspected UTI but make sure to treat it! They don't just go away!
I don't know why it's so common for us pregs to get them.
