Re: Not gaining weight

  • Don't worry. It's normal to not gain or even lose weight in the first trimester. I'm sure things will catch up later in your pregnancy and baby will be just fine :-)

  • (Lurking!)

In my first tri, I lost 20lbs.  Since then, I have only gained about 10lbs.  The doctor is not worried about it.  You should be fine.  I think the real weight gain starts at the end of the second tri.  Good luck!

  • I didn't really gain anything until second tri last time  I would not worry as long as you are eating enough calories.  Are you having any morning sickness?  That can make it hard too.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • I don't think you should really be concerned about weight gain at this point. The recommended weight gain during the first trimester is 3-5 pounds, but if you're not gaining now, you'll catch up later.

My other thought is that you were blessed not to have any serious problems with MS.  With DD I LOST 12-15 pounds during the first trimester.

  • I was the same weight at every appt until I hit 20 weeks.

And I had zero morning sickness and ate allllllll the time.

    Its different for everyone.

No morning sickness... Just once in a while a little nauseous but nothing big. I've been eating well too... Thank you all for your comments.

  • Not a big deal everyone gains weight differently, I didn't gain anything with my first until 20 weeks and then I gained 36lbs, I'm 13 weeks today and I haven't gained anything and I've been eating horribly, I think its just the way I handle pregnancy.
  • Im almost 18 weeks and down 3. My baby is growing just fine, its doesn't really matter how much you've gained , it matters how much the baby gains.
  • Totally normal. I actually lost 3 lbs, and at my 11 week appointment was still down 1 lb. Lots of people don't gain til 2nd tri.

  • Well, baby isn't too big yet, so probably no worries! https://www.pennmedicine.org/health_info/pregnancy/9monthmiracle/tools/fetaltool.html

I lost about 15 lbs and just now am back to my pre pregnancy weight. None of the doctors were concerned. :)

  • I haven't gained either.  I am ten weeks and 3 days.  I just get bloated by the end of the night and my belly sticks out.  Lovely!

  • Other than I hate you? J/K... that's normal. Everyone's different. You might not gain any weight especially if you've had a lot of m/s.

    Don't worry, i'm sure you'll catch up in your 2 & 3rd trimesters.

  • no worries - it's normal.
