We're home, quick birth story & PIPs

At 2 am on the 25th I started having contractions. Timed them, they were getting closer together, doing everything right...called BIL/SIL to sit with DD around 6 am and we were getting ready to go to the hospital. Darn labor stalled out around 9 am and we stayed home that day.

I had my scheduled induction on the 26th. Arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am, started my pitocin at 7:30 am at 1 ml/hr. My doula was adamant that we not increase pitocin too quickly and that we let my body do its thing as naturally as possible. I am SOOOO glad that I hired a doula, she was awesome and helped make this birth experience so much better! At 8:30 I had pitocin increased to 2 ml/hr and my water was broken by my OB. The nurse asked if I was ready for the epidural, I was 2 cm so I refused. I said I would wait. Well, I waited about 30 minutes and told them I was ready, LOL. I had my epidural in by 9:30 am and was then 3 cm dilated. They increased the pitocin to 4 ml/hr at that point and told me to take a nap. I tried resting, DH went to get some food and my doula went to eat as well.

By 11:30 I was asking for help b/c I could feel intense pressure really low down and knew pushing wouldn't be far off. The nurse didn't believe I could be near 10 cm and ready to push yet but she checked anyway. I only had a slight lip of cervix left and within 15 minutes I was fully dilated and dying to push. I had to wait about 5 minutes for my OB to get there and as she was gloving up I had a contraction and started pushing.

Through 5 contractions and about 10 minutes of pushing, Charles Richard was born at 12:11 pm. He was 8 lbs 1 oz and 19 3/4 inches long, everyone was calling him a little linebacker! He's a chunker for sure and pushing out a baby 2 lbs bigger than DD was a LOT more traumatic on me. I could barely move after the epidural wore off b/c of the swelling. I ended up with a slight 2nd degree tear and needed one stitch so it wasn't so bad pushing him out :-)

Overall, I was in labor for a little over 5 hours with Charlie.

Here are a couple pics :-)
