sick coworker rant...

i'm trying to figure out if i'm being unreasonably hormonal or whether i should say something to my officemate.  i work in a large office but share just one office with a coworker who is also a good friend.  we get along great, and she is one of the only people that knows that i am pregnant - i figured she'd need to know in case i do end up getting sick and stuff.  well, she is also one who doesn't like to take her personal time when she's sick, and i'm really annoyed right now because she's sniffling away next to me.  to be fair, i wouldn't just stay home from work if i had a cold, but i'm just more annoyed that i might catch it and not be able to take anything.  anyway, every time she sniffles i get angrier.  i find myself asking her questions about her symptoms hoping that she will get the hint and stay home and then i feel really bitchy and selfish because she isn't feeling good but i'm sure not bad enough that she wants to use up sick time to stay home.  grrrr........

  • You just stated that you wouldn't stay home if you had a cold, so whats your point exactly?

And, yes, you can take stuff

  • i guess my point is that i'm more hormonal and bitchy than i thought.  i'm not even usually a germophobe.  i'm just extra scared to catch anything now.

  • I think if you worry about getting it, your chances are higher of getting sick. Keep anti-bacteria at your desk.

I was wondering this as well. You sound like you have a sense of entitlement. Even though you would never leave due to a cold, you're pissed because you're pg and she wont leave. Her allergies may just be acting up. Now if she had the flu that would be a different story.

  • have you gotten a flu shot? i was a total germophobe when i found out i was pregnant and hadn't gotten one, to the point where i was holding my breath if i heard someone sniffling in the aisle with me at the store. now that i've gotten a flu shot, i'm much more relaxed and less paranoid. it's something to think about, just for your own peace of mind. and besides, there's nothing anyone can take for a common cold besides otc meds to alleviate symptoms.
