what do you eat?

What do you guys eat when your nauseous and starving all at the same time? I'm struggling over here. Please help!

Re: what do you eat?

  • I lived off toast and plain pasta with butter. Lots of gingerale.
  • Loading the player...
  • i eat whatever sounds good at the time! i also eat almost every hr...to keep the nausea away.

  • Ginger ale, pretzels, crackers...mostly carbs for me...
  • i eat lots of pretzels it kinda eases the nausea and they are kinda filling too and 7 up.  not sprite cause it is too sweet.
  • Eat as frequently as possible.  Stick to things like pretzels, crackers, toast, and i agree with the pp recommendation of plain pasta with butter.

  • salty or sour stuff helps me.  mcdonalds fries. :)
  • I've been eating every hour like a pp suggested.  Today I had strawberries, half a banana, saltines, almonds, and carrot sticks.
  • Lots and lots of carbs Embarrassed
  • Breakfast lasts from 6:30-10:30am.  I wake up eat yogurt.  Let it settle.  Then have a small bowl of cereal.  Let it settle.  Get ready for work.  I make toast and eat in on the way into the office.  Let it settle.  At about 10 I eat a packet of oatmeal.  There's some jolly ranchers in there somewhere.

Lunch - this doesn't go as well as planned and we're just beginning.  But minestrone and caesar salad is good.  McD's french fries were awesome but I try not to make a habit.  Frozen pasta meals.

    snacks - fruit, crackers, pretzels

Dinner - scrambled egg sandwich with cheddar, cereal, waffles, pasta.  I'm lacking in the vegi and meat territory but it's just not going to go down.

  • See- that's what I've been doing and today for some reason I just can't keep anything down. UGHH

I had some cereal, an apple, banana, crackers... and now toast... hopefully its just today. I've been able to basically eat little meals all day for the last week or so but for some reason today its just not working.

  • During my sickest days only the foods that contained protein helped me. I would have unsalted almonds, a string cheese, a spoonfull of peanut butter. I would eat every hour or so. It seemed like I was always putting something in my mouth. Oh and I never drank anything directly before or after I ate. That seemed to help.
  • When I'm nauseous, so far, I eat carbs.  Popcorn seems to help settle my stomach, and I drink apple juice.  I know I haven't even hit the real m/s yet!

  • I've had a lot more success with protein this time around.

But I agree about the eating all the time helps.  In the AM, after my zofran kicks in, I will have an egg with cheese.  when i get to work, i'll have a piece of fruit, then at 10 AM, a packet of oatmeal.  For lunch, I'll have a sandwich or a lean cuisine, and a piece of fruit or veggies, then a granola or protein bar around 1:30, and more fruit or veggies around 3:30.  That will usually get me home for dinner.  But mostly, it ends up being whatever sounds good at the moment.

  • Thanks guys- I will keep trying. I have no clue how I'm supposed to actually work and get through this stage. UGH

  • I have also had much more success with protein this time around, though carbs help too.

My #1 snack right now is crackers with cream cheese. Wouldn't have thought it would be soothing, but it settles my stomach really well. I also keep gingerale on hand for if I reeaally start feeling gross.

You could try cheese, hard boiled eggs, toast, pasta with butter, crackers, peanut butter, yogurt...those are working for me.

  • popsicles help me a lot. you can get some made by dreyer's that are sugar free so they're not as bad for you,  and i find they really settle my stomach. maybe it numbs it or something, but then i can usually eat more and feel more comfortable.

Just watch out for those because anything labeled as "sugar-free" typically contains artificial sweeteners (as do these).
