For moms using an organic/natural disposable diaper

Differences between Seventh Generation, Huggies Natural, Earths Best, etc?

Re: For moms using an organic/natural disposable diaper

  • I am using the brand that is difficult to find of course. We plan to order them on Amazon.com. They were recommended in the Baby Bargains Book....called Tushies.

  • Anyone using gDiapers?

  • I did some research on this a while back. I don't remember much about particular brands but be sure to know what "green" features you are paying for. Not to be Debbie Downer, because some of the natural diapers are vast improvements over regular disposables, but some of them aren't really that much better environmentally or health wise than regular sposies. Just be sure and do your research so you know what you are paying for.

That's what I was wondering - are Huggies Naturals REALLY natural, etc? I'll do the research but just wanted to see what other moms on here had to say.

  • I'm pretty sure all of those diapers listed above besides the g diaper are not biodegradable.  I think the  Nature Baby Care brand is.  It's pretty alarming to think of all the diapers that sit in the land fill.  I would say 95% of people likely use pampers/huggies etc and they NEVER break down.

  • I used just about all of them (we used cloth most of the time.)  If you are going to spend the extra $ you might want to think about what your priorities are. Most are just about exactly the same as normal disposables  - use the same gel stuff for absorbancy. I kind wanted to get away from that.

I hated the 7th gen and the huggies.

Whole foods brand were okay but stiff. Earth's best were okay too.

Best for us were nature babycare and full circle organic (which is kind of a store-brand for natural/organic products, don't know if they are available everywhere?)

I never did try tushies, but heard good things about them.

Did not try gdipaers - seemed like worst of all worlds for us - we are not able to compost, they are just as expensive as disposables (or more) and you still have the wash the pants.

  • Tushies are gel free, latex free, perfume free made with non-chlorine bleached wood pulp with cotton inside, they have "cloth-like" cover. I know they are probably not better than cloth diapers but they are eco-friendly and I would hope to bio-degrade than the average diaper. I have yet to see any diaper by any any company advertise that their diapers are completely bio-degradable. If you know of one, than that is the brand/type I want to go with with.
  • g-diapers here - although right now they're out of stock on the newborn ones so I may have to go with regular disposables till he fits in the smalls!

  • My cousins have been using 7th Gen on their 2 little girls for about 2 years now. They love them. They are NOT biodegradable or compost-able though. They tried Huggies Natural but they had leak issues.

As for gDiapers.... I've heard bad reviews. You really should not flush them unless you have a great new plumbing system and even then you're taking a risk. They can back up your pipes but you won't know it until you have to have the pipes snaked. I was given a few that I plan on trying. The liners are compost-able so I'm going to do that instead of flushing. I'm also going to try them with a cloth insert (I've heard pretty good things about doing that).
