Plugged duct?

I think I have a plugged duct. Right above my nipple is a red spot and when I push down on it, it's hard. I read that I should apply a warm compress and massage it when he's eating. I have a heating pad on it now and then I'll feed him. What else can I do? I don't want it to turn into mastitis, had that once already = not fun! Thanks for the help!

Re: Plugged duct?

  • I had one a few weeks ago and it went away on its own after about a week.  Mine wasn't red though.  It was just a hard lump.  Just keep nursing a lot on that side.  I suspect I got mine because I had started sleeping on my stomach which I discovered is a no no.

  • Ouch. I had one about 2w ago, my one side was so sore but I had a tiny white spot not a red one (a milk blister apparently). I peeled the top layer of skin (though its not recommended) and then pumped and by the next feeding it was better! Hope something works for you!
