DS was quite tiny when he was born. He was 5lbs 12oz when he was born 3 days before his edd. At my 1st appt last week, my OB mentioned that he would have to keep an eye on the baby's size this time. I forgot to ask what they would do. My fundal height measured right on with DS and my OB estimated DS to be 7 1/2 or 8lbs two days before my c/s.
Anyone else have a small baby the first time? Any thought on what my OB might do differently to keep an eye on the baby? Maybe growth u/s? Obviously I'll ask at my next appointment, but that's not for another 3 weeks!
Re: Any 2nd+ timers have really small baby 1st time?
My son was 5 lbs 12 oz but he was a preemie born at 34 weeks/ They will probably do growth us often.
DD was 5lbs4oz at 38 weeks. She basically stopped growing due to oligohydramnios. I was sent for a BPP, her fluid was severely low, she was diagnosed as IUGR (she was predicted @ 4lbs10oz, obviously off), and I was sent straight to the hospital for a c/s.
Fast forward to two years later ... my OB ran some tests while we were TTC and it turns out I have a clotting disorder - MTHFR. He feels that is what caused the low fluid & restricted growth. I'm on baby aspirin & extra Folic Acid, B6 & B12, currently. I have a meeting with my hematologist tomorrow to see if my homocysteine levels are still normal or if I will need to start Lovenox.
Anyway, that's why I had a small baby. We're hoping the preventative measures will help me maintain a healthier pregnancy this time around. If my fundal measurements start lagging again we'll do BPPs, but I doubt we'll do them routinely if all measures well.
