Baby Names

What names does your spouse hate that you love?

My favorite girl name my husband really dislikes, I have no idea why.  So does your significant other hate any of your favorites.

Oh by the way, I love Felicity and he hates it :(

Re: What names does your spouse hate that you love?

  • He pretty much hated all of them, and most were for no specific reason! I'm talking simple names like Caleb, Adam, Aaron, Isaac, Spencer, etc. It isn't like they were unusual!

Pretty much the only names we both somewhat agreed on (and we really only talked boy names since we found out the sex each time) were Logan, Jacob, Noah, Patrick and Connor. Oh and maybe Zachary.

  • I love the name Tristan and my H hates it. I also LOVE John Paul and he says no way are we ever using that. I find him pretty difficult in this whole name picking thing, but I think I'll keep him aroundWink But I did notice last time, waiting til right after the baby was born helped me get my way (not that I did it on purpose, but the first thing I said when my son was placed in my arms was, "Can we name him Ben?") Could he really say no after 6 hours of back labor!

  • The only name he really liked was Aiden, and I put my foot down. It wasnt happening.

I loved Cole, Landon and Damien. He wasnt having any of it.

  • My favorite girl names he loves, but the below girl names I really like and he hates them. I love the boy names below and he hates them. We don't agree on many boy names.

Girl: Jane, Susanna, Mallory, Melanie, Jillian

Boy: Ethan, Caleb, Jeremy, Garrett, Ian, Noah, Jack, Calvin, Isaac

ETA: I like Felicity and DH didn't like it either!

  • Apparently I like "sissy" boy names but my husband isn't a macho man so i don't know what his problem is. We don't know what we're having yet so it doesn't matter.

Boys : Jonah (swoon), Evan, Justin, Eliot

Girl: Amy Page - first and middle.

  • I have always love the name Giselle...but DH has vetoed it based on the nick name some middle school boy will inevitably give her (Gizzy).   I also really liked Ruby but he was convinced she would be teased as "Ruby Boobie"  I told him he was being lame but he is sticking to it.
  • We've agreed on our boy name (MY suggestion, TYVM), but he has vetoed just about every girl name I've come up with.  My current favorites are Catherine, Charlotte, Evelyn, Harper, and Sophie.  Doesn't like any of them.  Sad

  • I think Gideon is the name that we've totally clashed on. I love it (plus, its a family name) and he hates it.

He wants Harly (also a family name) for a boy, and while I'm not totally against it, it sounds like a girl to me.

  • DH doesnt hate the name, but he vetoed it asap...It is Cole.   Only b/c it rhymes with our last name.  It has been my absolute fav since childhood, but he wont let it happen b/c it would be too rhymey...
  • I adore the name Maren (Maw-ren), but dh hates it and says it sounds like 'marlin' the fish. I also love Iris and Stella, but dh vetoed them.

For some odd reason, we tend to agree more on boys' names.

  • He has pretty much vetoed very name that I have suggested. But then I have vetoed his two favourites as well.

This would explain why we have NO names that we agree on.

  • He doesn't hate it, but Jude. I'm a big fan of the name, and he's kind of "eh" about it.

  • We've only really discussed boy names.

He vetoed Landon b/c its too much like London.

Vetoed Tyler b/c of some kid he grew up with.

He doesnt really hate any of the names I brought up, just doesn't like a lot of associations, which I can understand

  • Brynna.  I love that name and DH absolutely hates it!

  • Isaac and Nolan.  Although after seeing how many people are naming their boys Nolan I have started to dislike it as well.

  • My favorite boy and girl name we chose to use but others I liked and threw out there in the beginning he wasn't feeling: Iris, Madison, Noah, Tristian,

  • Brenna is my fave name and he hates it.  He pretty much hates all of my names.

  • OOH yes - I have several names that I love that were instantly vetoed.

Girls: Hazel, Eliza, Allison, Bridgette, Olivia

Boys: Noah, Jonah, Adam, Aiden, Owen, Collin, Seamus (I'm very very Scots-Irish)

  • The names that I can think of that DH and I clashed on is boy names..Ephraim, James, Silas, and Emery...girl names..Sophia, Naomi, and Harlow.

  • I loved Ezra, but the hubs didn't. It's okay though because Seth is definitelt not an Ezra : )

And even though we never had a chance to use a girl name, I wanted to use Hazel before we knew he was a boy...the husband despised it.

  • The ones I loved that he hated: Isla and Amara. We pretty much agreed on everything else.

  • I don't know that he HATES them, but these were absolute Nos from DH: Lucas, Amelia, Andrew. Names he likes a lot and I don't at all: Edward, Douglas, Lydia.

We're both pretty traditional so it's not like that's why we disliked these names, but for whatever reason, they were vetoed immediately.

  • I LOVE double names for girls.  My absolute favorite is Mary Eleanor, called Mary Nell, which was my grandmother's name.  DH hates double names, he thinks they are pretentious.

Luckily he loved my second-favorite choice for our daughter, which is Elizabeth Everett, called Betsy (also family names).  And I really do think Betsy fits her better than Mary Nell would.

  • Brynn or Brynna

    (why don't guys like these??)

  • I like Sadie and Bridget, but he nixed both. :(

  • The only name my husband has been super excited about is Sophia, which as much as I love it, is simply way too popular for my taste. I refuse.

Other than that, he'll say he likes a name one day, but then be like, "Eh, I might see if there's something I like better."

I'm due in 6 weeks and we have an 18-month-old to prepare for a new sister. So, I've made a decision, based on a name he initially said he liked. Now when he says he's not sure, I say too darn bad. He can choose the middle name. :)

  • My favorite name since I was a little girl was Savannah. He vetoed it right away, b/c of an association he makes with the name. Since then we have agreed upon a girls name that we both equally love.

Other girl names I like, but DH doesn't are:

Tavea, Techoa, Ava, Adia, Eden, Addalyn, Addison

And here are the boy names, only I am a fan of:

Josiah, Jonah, Nolan, Ethan, Silas, Lincoln

    Anniversary
  • For girls, I like Kara he doesn't, but is okay with it for a middle name.

Based on other names we agree on, I assumed he would like Liam, Corbin, Carson (though it doesn't go with our last name) and Garrett, all names that I like. Nope, nope, nope, and hell nope.

He also likes Calvin, but I went to school with one who was a major douche and can't get over the association.

I'm hoping we have girls. We agree on girl names.

  • Eli, Ezra, Levi, Lucas

They really don't go with our last name though, except maybe Levi.

  • Well we have agreed on a boy name, however girl names are a nightmare! The names I love that he doesn't are:

    Sawyer

    Jocelyn

    Lucy

    Stella

    Ella

    Scarlett

    Keelie

  • Josephine

  • I really like the name Vivian ( long long long before Brangelina), but DH doesn't so it has been vetoed.

    Heather

  • DH generally veteos everything instantly.  The ones I really liked were: Amelia, Eleanor (Nora), Greta, and Gretchen. (we are going with Evelyn, which I am still surprised that he said yes...last time we were team green the only name he would agree to was Emily which was soooo popular).

boys names that he vetoed: Spencer and Charles (Charlie)

  • Hmm, we have pretty much agreed on all of the "final" name choices; although there are a few that he never says much about...I'm thinking his silence is his way of passive agressively telling me that he doesn't care for them - ha!  Every other name he jumps up and says, "Ooh, I really like it!"

The ones I like that he stays especially tight-lipped about are: Imogen (Immy), Tallulah (Lulu), Angus, and Mungo.

  • my dh hates the name Seamus...I love it.

but when I say I like the name most people thinks it's terrible.  Oh well, we're done having kids so I don't have to worry..haha

  • Annika - I thought it gave adorable nicknames too with Annie or Nikki, but DH said, "It sounds like Anakin Skywalker."

We'll see what our future name discussions bring Smile
