Baby Clothes

Ok, I'm sorry. I know this topic has been gone over before but I can't seem to find it when I search.

How many NB clothes should you have one hand for baby?

I know that babies grow at different rates and reach sizes at different times but I am just wanting a broad spectrum idea of what I should have on hand. ATM I have 10 outfits in NB size and probably that many again in 3 MO size. Some of the clothes were hand me downs but some of them are brand new off the rack. I guess what I am asking is do I wash them all or do I take some of the new ones and return them because there is no way that my baby will wear all of them before he grows out of that size. He is measuring right on track for growth at 38 weeks if that gives you any idea as to how big he will come out.

Thank you ladies for reading my ramblings and for posting your thoughts!

  • This would be better to ask this on 0-3 mos board.

  • I'd probably wait until after the baby is born to decide if you want to return some of the clothes.  I'd wash a few of your favorite things now, and wait on the rest.  You just don't know how big the baby will be, so it's too hard to predict what you will need.  I barely have any newborn clothes because I'm expecting my baby to be big, but I have friends whose babies wore newborn clothes for the first couple of months.
  • The NB stuff I have only goes up to about 8 lbs.  I expect that will be LOs birth weight so I think we'll have about a week in NB sizes (and Gerber NB size is really premie size IMO) Instead of buying a bunch of NB stuff, I bought 0-3 stuff (footed sleepers) and gowns (elastic at the bottom) which tend to be 0-9 because the length isn't an issue.  The gowns won't work for going out very well because you can't get the carseat buckle between their legs but I figure we won't be going many places in the 1st days anyway.  I only have like 2-3 actual NB sized things.
  • DS was 8 lbs, 5 oz and didn't fit into any of the NB sized clothes that we had bought.  we had some 0-3 and those worked well.  actually, DS lived in t-shirts and diapers for the first couple of weeks anyway.  i would wash a couple of each size and then see what fits with LO is born... good luck!
