SA: If you have read the Sookie Stackhouse books

What do you think? I am just starting From Dead to Worse (book 8). I think they are pretty good except for the campy romance scenes and her crass talk.

Re: SA: If you have read the Sookie Stackhouse books

Sigh. I should NOT have opened this up. I'm in the middle of book 2. :(

  • I'm not telling ! :)

But yea she is a like a supernatural hoebag ;) but I like reading about it. I was pissed about the turn it takes with Bill. I wonder if it will go that way in True Blood as well.

  • 1) add a spoiler alert for true blood fans

    2) i love the books but TB is so not following them.  and i hate the eric hook up too :(

    Exactly!

  • i've got the mouth of a trucker, but she (charlaine) is just nasty.  "spandex so tight you can count the pubes".  seriously?  whoTF talks like that?

oh I appreciate her books and her writing farrrrrr more than twilight though.

I'll take funny raunch over nonsensical "imprinting' mormon porn any day of the week.

what?  i didn't catch that.  were you murmuring?

  • I really enjoy the books.  I think I may be addicted to them. :(

I notice that as Sookie becomes more and more independent, she also becomes more focused on sexual things.  I don't really know what Harris is trying to say there -- that a woman is really independent when she's in charge of her sexuality?  Just a strange observation, I guess.

Don't read the description for book 9.  It ruined book 8 for me, at least partly. :)

and everyone is wearing come me heels and I could go on and on.

I agree with you!  I also find myself so much more accepting of Harris' strange proofreading errors, while in Twilight I was counting the number of times she used "glowered."  Maybe I just like the "grown up" vampire book more than the YA version. :)

  • Oh I won't! I am going out soon to buy book 9 and did you see book 10 is due in May!!

    Thanks for the info.

Lanie I agree. Breaking Dawn was more like the Breaking Point. It was awful. The imprinting thing really grosses me out. I couldn't shake the weird feeling that book gave me.

Same here. I think I am addicted too. I love them. There are definitely some errors but it is easy to let go of. I like these a lot better than Twilight too. I am trying to keep the spoilers to a minimum for those of you still on the early books.

  • monkeybuttwhat -- Did you see that there is a short story collection, as well?  It really has mixed reviews, but apparently it gives some background on the characters.  I saw it at Target, but didn't get it b/c I want to finish the series so far first.

the Claudette/Claudia thing really annoyed me, but Definitely Dead is just an exercise in diarrhea of the pen.  and i get really peeved where out of nowhere characters sit down and have long discussions in the middle of something else important to pump up the backstory.  very reminiscent of the "tent scene" in Eclipse, and fvcking annoying as sh!t.

It is in my Amazon cart now! My friend has it and she says it is ok. I think I will just get it anyways. I am going out after lunch to get Dead and Gone. I think that one you're talking about is A Touch of Dead. I might grab it too. I was going to order them but I need them NOW! :)

I agree. I hate having to read about JB being good looking but dumb in the beginning of every novel, really because I didn't get that 5 books ago?

  • Love these books!  They're fun, quick reads with nothing serious, and I have to admit I like the campiness of them.  That's part of what makes them fun.  I just finished book 8 and would love to get ahold of book 9, but my library sucks.

  • Aw, I loved the Eric/Sookie hookup.  I seem to be one of the few!  And Alan Ball said they are not closely following all the plot lines from the book, as was made pretty clear last season.  I think they changed an awful lot.
