Vertical bump on DD's forehead

It's been there forever... her pedi doesn't seem concerned. What do you think? Do you see it?

well honestly I would be seeing another pedi. I'm sorry but I would go see a specialist. The bones in the skull should not be put aside. Go see a specialist.

I've never asked him specifically about it... I was reading another post on here earlier this afternoon about someone else's baby with something similar (only it was horizontal).

I wasn't able to post the pic at work so I'm finally home and can post it... I feel like I'm the only one who sees it because everyone I ask says it's just her baby head. It's always worried me.

I'll be honest, yes, I see it, and yes, I would be concerned.  Not freaking out, but I would definitely raise it with my pedi and ask about craniosynostosis.  My son has a fused suture that did not require surgery, but sometimes it does.  I'd check it out.

This. I answered the previous post and I'll tell you the same thing. I'd get her checked for craniosynostosis. My daughter had it (different sutre) and had surgery in October. you need to see a neurosurgeon or a cranio-facial surgeon. Many pedis don't recognize it.

It's weird, because it shows up better in photos than in real life for some reason. But I can feel it when I run my hand over her forehead so I know it isn't my eyes. I didn't know until today there was some sort of name for it so I will definitely be making an appointment before her 12 month check up.

Looks like a metopic ridge to me - that is what occurs when the metopic suture fuses prematurely.  The metopic suture is the first to fuse of all the skull sutures, so having a ridge does not necessarily mean your daughter needs surgery but it should be checked out by a specialist.  Craniosynostosis is rare and many many pedis do not recognize it or diagnose it properly.  Get a referral or go see a neurosurgeon or craniofacial plastic surgeon.  My son had craniosyostosis and it was his metopic suture that was fused.  It was present from birth and very severe.  He had surgery to correct it on Dec. 1.  He's doing great now and has a beautiful round noggin.  Good luck to you.  PM me if you have questions or need support :)

Um, I definitely do see it and I would be consulting a specialist if it were me.

Thank you (and all the rest of you as well) for giving me more information about this. I did an image search and the images are exactly what DD's forehead and top of her head look like.

I feel like the worst mom ever, I just put her to bed for the night and I can't stop crying. I can't believe I didn't say anything about it until now. I just figured it was her head forming... I had no idea it could be something wrong. I am going to call her pedi first thing tomorrow morning.

I see it. My daughter has something similar. It really freaked me out around 4 months when I started to notice it. I brought it up with the pediatrician, who mentioned craniosynostosis. She told me not to worry right away and scheduled me a recheck visit for a month later to re-evaluate. We went back and her head had grown fine, and the ridge wasn't as noticeable. She told me that it wasn't something to worry about, so I'm not anymore.

However, I would definitely bring it up to your pedi and see what they say. My daughter still has a slight one, but it is MUCH better now.

Onajohn (if I spelled that right) - the Bump won't let me send replies to messages, so -

I really appreciate your message. I've been worried all night long - I did call a more specialize doctor than her pediatrician tonight and left a voicemail describing my daughter's situation... I asked for an appointment mostly for peace of mind and to make sure if it needs to be corrected we do so sooner than later.

It is more prominent than anything else, her eyes are just fine and her head is pretty normal looking, at least to me. I am hoping the doctor tells me it is something she will grow out of (or rather into).

Thanks again for the message, I really appreciate it.
