I use PF's from Cotton Babies & Green Mountain. We looked online for the different fold techniques, tried a few out and found one we liked. I'm sure different ones work better for different babies - it's just a matter of finding the one for you. It took about 2 weeks to get really proficient at folding - you go through a lot of diapers at first so you get LOTS of practice!
I have tried Gdiapers and I'm not a fan. Getting the inserts into the diaper is a cumbersome process, I'd honestly rather do prefolds. Also, they Gdiapers don't contain poop very well at all, I can't imagine using them on a newborn when the poop is so runny.
i started out with prefolds because they were cheap, even though they are a little more complicated than other options. once i was confident with those, i "graduated" up to the one size pockets (bumgenius 3.0's) because DS started going to daycare. at first $17 seems crazy expensive for a diaper but they will pay for themselves and they really do fit from about 2 mos to potty training.
this website has a lot of good info on everything involved for cloth diapering.
I am starting off with 24-30 prefolds for up to 8-10lbs with 6-8 diaper covers.
I have 12 bum genius 3.0 one size pocket diapers that should last me for a while. I will see how me and DH like the prefolds before we buy more of either type.

I like bumGenius AIO (both their deluxe sized and their one size organics).
