Babies: 0 - 3 Months

for those of you who circumcised ?

The on call pediatrician at the hospital where I delivered didn't do circumcisions so we're scheduled for circumcisions tomorrow with our pedi. Just wondering what the recovery was like from that. Did your LOs seem to be in pain. We have scheduled to have their pictures taken the day after the circ (naked pictures but no penis pics, obviously). Just wanted to know if they will be fussier or in pain and if we should reschedule the photos. If so, how long out before they were back to normal?

Re: for those of you who circumcised ?

  • My LO was grumpy for a couple of hours after he was circumcised.  Nursing a lot seemed to comfort him.

  • DS was pretty fussy the day of the circumcision. Make sure you have infant tylenol on hand. You might want to reschedule the photos for a few days later just in case. He was circumcised at 1 month old, though.

  • DS seemed to be in pain later that day but the next day he seemed fine.  It healed up great in a couple days.  GL!

  • My little boy seemed a little fussy the day of the circumcision but he was fine the next day!!
  • DS seemed to be painless.  He actually only winced when they were doing the circumcision.  He seemed to be in more pain when they kept pricking his heels for sugar tests.

  • The day after he was a little fussy. But nothing horrible. Make sure you have A&D :)
  • ds was cir at 2 days old. hospital gave him tylenol. we used neosporin with pain relief at every diaper change. ds was very uncomfortable every time he urinated.

  • He didn't really seem to be in pain but he was extra sleepy and wanted to nurse for comfort a lot that day. He wasn't eating like he usually does. I would reschedule your photos for next week, you won't want anything getting stuck to their sensitive penis after it's just been snipped since you're doing them naked. We had to put gauze soaked in vaseline on his penis for a few days with every diaper change.

    this exactly.

  • DS was a little fussy the day of his circumcision. He would get a little irritated during diaper changes when we would put the ointment on his penis.

However, the next day he was fine. The hospital gave us basically neosporin to put on his penis, which we are still putting on until we see the pediatrician on Wednesday.

  • ours was done day 2.   really no discomfort noticable--have vaseline handy to put on diapers so they don't stick.   our little guy was healed in less than a week
  • thanks ladies

  • my ds got it done when he was 2 days old at the hospital. recovery has been fine so far. they just told us that he would sleep a lot the day it happened (which he did) and to put vaseline on it when we changed his diaper so the diaper wouldn't stick to him. they said it would take about a week to heal. we've still been putting vaseline on it....just incase!
