3rd Trimester

You all were right! Re: baby clothes & showers!!!!

I have always heard on here about how to make sure that you don't register for clothes. I have taken that advice and didn't register for anything besides plain white onesies. However, even knowing what you girls told me I was still shocked at the amound of clothing that we got yesterday. READ: We are very grateful!  :)  I counted 15 tops/pants/sleepers that we got and they are allllllllll 0-3 which we already have a lot of actually. Got gift receipts for them and I feel guilty for taking them back but I think I'm going to do some returns today after school and either keep the in store credit or buy a few of the "non-fun" items from our registry like mattress pads, etc.  You girls were right for sure about the clothes!  I can understand though. I know how hard it is to pass up little girl's clothing!  Smile

  • I exchanged a few for bigger sizes, so I didn't feel so bad returning. I am so glad I didn't buy LO much in the 0-3 or 3-6 sizes because I definitely got a ton of those two sizes at my shower.

  • I keep telling family how many hand me downs we have gotten to try to avoid nothing but clothes as gifts.  Girls clothes are so fun to shop for, its hard to pass up.

  • We already have too many clothes from hand-me-downs...I know this will be us. We did the same thing - didn't register for clothes...I hope people get what we need instead of what's cute.....I understand it's hard to pass up baby clothes...but they are clothes. I would rather have some a&d ointment please! LOL! Glad you had a good shower!

  • What was funny was comparing what my friends (who have had very recently had babies) bought me, and what MIL's friends bought me - guess who the practical items came from and who bought all the clothes.....

We have not had to buy ANY clothes so far - I'm only thinking now of getting maybe another pack of sleep gowns, but I may try and wait to see how big/small she ends up being!

  • I got about 25 little outfits from BRU and was able to return all of them and get stuff I actually needed! I am really particular about clothing and just didnt like anything of the outfits I got. I figure - Why keep them in her closet if Im never going to put her in them? Dont feel guilty!

  • I might be in the minority here.  I was shocked that I only got maybe 3 outfits at my shower.  And there were LOTS of people there (almost 60)!  We were very lucky though that nearly everything from our registry was purchased.

  • If I ever buy clothes for someone, I always buy at least in a 6-9 month size (thinking ahead to what season the baby will be at that age).  It blows my mind how much little stuff you get at showers (usually from non-new moms).

  • I only got 3 outfits at my shower this past weekend and only one was a strange size.  Fleece in a size 3 - 6months.  My MIL tried to say that it would work for cool evenings.  Umm,  It doesn't get very cool at nice in Georgia in the summer to warrant fleece.  Oh well.  We are still very grateful.

The annoying thing that I got was a clearance baby carrier that I can't return from my DH's grandmother.  I also got the really nice Beco that I registered for so I don't need both at all.  Oh well.

Me too! I got a few more outfits then 3 but not many. I hadn't bought really any cloths because I figured I'd get a ton for my shower. Most of my guests bought off the registry, which was awesome!! Now I need to get a few outfits though.

  • Heh - I was surprised at how few clothes I got!

    I got one newborn sleeper.
    10 0-3 mo short-sleeved onesies (5 white, 5 patterned)
    3 0-3 mo long-sleeved onesies (patterned)
    3 0-3 month sleepers
    10 3-6 mo short-sleeved onesies (5 white, 5 patterned)
    3 3-6 mo long-sleeved onesies (patterned)
    3 3-6 month sleepers
    10 6-9 month onesies (5 white, 5 patterned)

    and 2 sleep bags.

The thing that makes me laugh is being due in February and getting no pants.  :)

  • 15??! LOL I got well over 100 articles of clothing for LO at my shower, everything from NB to 24 months.

It took me four loads of laundry to do it all, and I cannot fit it all into my closet, so we are only putting through 6 months.  I didn't take any of it back, but I figure I won't have to but LO clothes for at least a year.

It's a little ridiculous.  After all this, I will NEVER buy clothes from someone for a baby shower again.

  • We had a friend of my parents who gave us a TON of handmedowns (I'm talking 7/8 BINS of clothes from nb to 4T). We have more clothes from her than we know what to do with. What we did then is go through all the clothes from the shower that we didn't absolutely love and returned them. I'm not kidding you, from Babies R Us and Target combines we got back $120 from 2 grocery bags full of clothes! It was insane but I was so grateful! We were able to get the other necessary stuff and I am still really thankful for the generosity of people at my shower, even if I didn't keep the clothes they gave me :)

  • You're so lucky you got receipts.  I got tons of 0-3 month stuff too, in addition to 3 full boxes and 2 garbage bags full of hand me downs... no receipts, so unless I could find the item on BRU's site to add to my registry I couldn't return them, only trade up for another size (which if I didn't care for the outfit, I was SOL... Picture a sleeper that reminded me of Ralphie in the pink bunny suit in Christmas Story... "Aunt Clara had for years not only perpetually labored under the delusion that I was 4 years old, but also a girl.")

And then of course at Target, the couple of 0-3mo stuff I had without a receipt would've gotten me a like $1 store credit... lot of good that would do me.

  • I didn't get too many (we've only lived here for 2 years so I was just blessed to have 10 friends get together for a small shower) but I will let anyone who's trying to take back things without gift receipts or any idea where it came from that I had luck with T.J. Maxx yesterday. I got $35 back and used $10 on something we needed right away but am saving the rest for random things after she's born. I noticed they had a lot of winter preemie stuff on clearance and thought that'd be nice if we end up in that situation.
