DH and I are once again having a terrible and I mean terrible time picking a name

When we named DS, I liked his name but I did not LOVE his name. The same thing is happening again. I would like to name her Ella Grace and DH is on the fence. I too am now on the fence, even though I haven't come up with anything else that I like and keep coming back to Ella. I just don't think I will ever LOVE a name. Names are just so permanent (although I guess you could change your baby's name but I wouldn't want to do that). Any insight? Or name ideas

There are no names I absolutely love, so I understand what you are saying. I am hoping I love them once they are here and I can put a face to those names.
I think Ella is really feminine and beautiful, though!
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

Didnt' love DS's name. DH picked it out - and it wasn't even that he "loved" it. it was just one of the VERY few names that he REALLY liked.
I don't feel you have to both LOVE a name in order to use it. Honestly - I think using that as a marker of whether it's a good name or not is unrealistic.

DS name was not my #1 choice, but iit was DH's #1, so I chose his mn (Justin Lucas). I like Justin - it was in our top 5, but by no means is it the name I LOVE.
I love DD's name. Alexis was my #1, but not DH's (similar situation - it was in our top 5, but I put my foot down after all the IF treatments/needles I endured. We both love her mn (Alexis Morgan).
I LOVE DD#1s name. Gracie Mae. I had it for the whole pregnancy (and a boys name too since we were team green). DD#2s name we kinda settled on. DH and i couldn't agree and we picked Sophie Rae. I like it, but don't love it like i loved the 1st one. It was hard to pick. We couldn't agree.
Pick some that you like and check out babynamegenie dot com. Good site. GL!

I know that when we meet her we will be happy with our decision. I could not imagine DS not being Nolan. It fits him. I am sure if we go with Ella for DD, we will feel the same way. I think I have let this stress me out too much because the reality that she will be here so soon has just recently hit and I feel so ill prepared this time, which is odd because shouldn't I bet a veteran or something?
DH has always loved DS's name. It wasnt my top choice, it wouldnt even have been on my list of DH hadnt been drilling it into my head. But once we started using it, it just felt right.
I honestly dont think a name is as big of a deal as everyone thinks it is. You'll find that the name usually suits the child and any previous feelings you had about it will fade away. It's almost like the name takes on a life of its own once it has someone associated with it.

In all honesty, I wasn't totally crazy about the name Stella before she was born. I really liked it, but I didn't love it. But...we couldn't agree on any other names. Now I absolutely LOVE, LOVE the name. Once I saw her face, I knew that was her name and now I feel like it totally fits her. Now I can't believe I didn't love it at first.
Trust me, one you see that baby, you will fall in love with the name too!
We both really loved Garrison from the start but we were nervous about how it would be received. Now that she is almost 7 months old, we LOVE it. It is so her. Strong, yet beautiful. Most people still seem split down the middle (well and often they think she is a boy) and will either say nothing or exclaim about how much they love it when they hear her name. I like that not everyone likes it. Anyone can pick a name that everyone will like...
Garrison is a family name and that was important to us as were the women she was named after. I really like the idea of that in our naming decision.I also wanted something unique and not overly girlie. It might help you to decide if you want a name that means or represents something (your family, your heritage, your experience, etc.) or if you lean towards picking something that is very traditional or very unique, very feminine, etc.
If I were in your shoes I would hold off. Come up with a list of a few names you really like and see how you feel when she is born. You don't have to have the name etched in stone before she is here.
Good luck!!
I had Nicholas' name picked out when I was a kid watching Eight is Enough. The youngest child was Nicholas and I thought he was adorable. So I said if I ever have a son his name will be Nicholas and he will be called Nicholas- not Nick or Nicky.
so when we were choosing boy names. DH wanted names like Nunzio (????) and Rocco. Sorry but we live in South Carolina, I can't really see a little southern boy with the name Nunzio. Yeah I put the kabash on that. Then I said "How about Nicholas?". I was kind of on the fence with Nicholas because we knew quite a few people who had named their sons Nicholas.
So he said "Okay". Then he was like "Oh we can call him Nico". I was like "No way!" (No offense, Courted).
Now if we ever have another boy we are in trouble since Nicholas was the one name we agreed on. DH wants Anthony as a name and I said No way, but will use it as a middle name.
Oh and girl names were hard too. Every name I picked, DH had an opinion why he didn't like it. So I finally said "What about Ava?" Bracing myself for why he would veto that name. He says "Hmmm like Ava Gardner (the old actress)?". I say "yeah sure like Ava Gardner whatever floats your boat we'll name our baby after an old lady actress".
So hopefully if our next one is a girl, he still likes Ava- because that is non negotiable.
Yes and no. We didn't name him until the day we left the hospital and were kind of forced to make a decision. I liked the name Oliver a lot and it has very important meaning to me, but I knew it was going to become quite popular, which I didn't want. But the names I love, DH vetoed and vice versa. For the first month or 2 if someone called him Oliver instead of "the baby" or "Robinho" (our in utero nn) or "pumpkin" or whatever, I would actually cringe because it just didn't feel like his name. But now, 8 months in, he is such an Oliver/Ollie. It's the perfect name for him and I love it. So even if you don't love a name initially, it might grow on you. (FWIW, his middle name, Robin, was something we came up with at the last minute and I LOVE it. So you might have a name present itself at the 11th hour too.)
I think picking names with personal significance can really help. (Oliver is a nod to the twins we lost.) That way even if the name itself doesn't move you, the meaning behind it always will.
