  • I've never done this. I always think this applies to those that are planning on going the natural route, which I am not. I want to get that epi as soon as I can.
  • I'm not really gonna write one out. My doctor knows what I'm hoping for as does DH so I'll probably just remind them when the time comes. I don't have any real specific demands.
  • Me!!  I don't see the point, I know most of what happens with be out of control.  I only have 2 big wishes, just DH in the room besides medical staff and an epidural.  No need to waste paper on that.

Plus during the hospital tour they told us that we don't really need a birthing plan because they will ask us all the important questions.  But if we have on, no more than 1 page long.

  • Other than knowing I want an epidural, I am really not planning anything!

  • I'm not either. For me it's rather pointless considering im high-risk, so for me to have a set way i want it to go is just setting myself up for disapointment :)
  • im not going to... i know id like epi and id also like to go with the flow..

  • I'm not. I picked my OB practice because they have a similar philosphy to mine.

I am the biggest planner ever, and for once I'm not because I feel like I am not really in control.

  • Same as above...otherwise just want LO to come out safely no matter what it takes!
  • I am glad someone else asked this. I felt guilty marking no on my paper work, like I was less of a mother for not having one. Good to know I'm not the only one!

  • I didn't with DD #1. Seriously, what's the point. Your birth will be what it is and no matter how you plan, it will work out differently than what you ever expected. I guess it give some people a sense of control to write on, but really your birth will unfold in unexpected ways. I had an epidural after I was 4cm. The epidural didn't work for me, so I basically went through 18 hrs of natural childbirth, which I had never planned on, followed by a csection, so you just never know. This time I am having a scheduled csection. But, if DD #2 doesn't agree with the date we picked I'll have another birth that will play out differently than I expected.
  • No way. That just seems like extra work. Besides, how hard is it to remember 'insert drugs, cut, remove child'?

  • nope, no plan here, she will enter this world in the way that is best and safest for her.
  • Oh, I have one prepared, but it's pretty simple:

    Have a baby.

    That is my birth plan.

Hopefully we can include "safely" and "as pain-free as possible" in there, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • We aren't.... We felt after s/w or OB that most of the questions on the one posted on this site were more for 2nd+timers and those for going all natural or with MWs.... we also felt that one can't (esp'ly me) predict what that day will bring and or call for... it's good though to discuss with OB your wants for LO ( stay with you, DH to be around for x,y,z etc but everything elsewas eeh to us) ... i just think especially being my first i have no idea what I will want or how i will react until reality really hits me....and at that point we can all adapt.... GL though

  • I think they can be really valuable, but we go to a m/w and are going to a room in the hospital that requires we follow all the things we would put in our birth plan anyway ("natural" med-free births only, laboring at home until about 5 cm, room to walk/bounce on ball/use the tub for pain management).  We don't have a lot of choice unless something goes wrong, in which case, I'm not sure my plan would be useful.  I'm leaning towards no, now.
  • My birth plan is to leave the hospital with a healthy baby. Finished and done.
    So it goes.
  • Nope...I have no idea what to expect, so how do I know what I prefer???  As long as they get my boy out safely, whatever happens, happens.

I have very specific ideas - but by not putting them down on paper I'm hoping it will help me cope with any disappointment I feel when things can't go as planned. My midwife knows my wishes and will be checking with me along the way - probably the best way for us to do it.
  • I'm not.  I'm not trying to go med-free so I felt it wasn't necessary.

  • I'm not. My doctors know that I would like as little medical intervention as possible, but will do absolutely anything necessary to ensure a healthy delivery for both my little lady and myself.
  • ME! I had one for DD#1 and it was never used/discussed, or needed. I didn't have ne with DD#2 and  everything still went smoothly. I will not for this one either.
  • My birth plan is to walk out of the hospital with a baby. I don't think I need to write that down
  • i'm not.

but then, i am having a scheduled c-section b/c of the condition of my uterus after my 2nd fibroid surgery last may.

  • My birth plan is as follows:
    1) Epi when I the pain gets too intense to handle it
    2) Deliver the baby however necessary to asure he is healthy
